Park Street Deli Fiesta Black Bean Dip

Mexican-inspired food is part of the regular meal rotation in my house. We love tacos, taco salad, and loaded nachos. A great part of these meals is tortilla chips and dip. The dip might be a good restaurant-style salsa, homemade guacamole, queso, or perhaps a bean dip.

I recently noticed a mixed case with some new dips in the refrigerated aisle at Aldi, and they include a loaded nacho dip and a fiesta bean dip. The nacho dip has become a new favorite Aldi product of ours, and the bean dip is pretty good, too. I’m taking a closer look at the bean dip here.

Park Street Deli Fiesta Black Bean Dip

Park Street Deli Fiesta Black Bean Dip appears to be a Regular Buy that Aldi will stock all year, but I’m not certain about that. Because this was introduced in my local stores in the spring, it’s also possible it might be a Seasonal Item that is available only during the spring and summer months.

This is perishable and should be kept refrigerated. The container I bought had a best-by date of about three and a half weeks out from my purchase date.

This cost $3.29 for a 12-ounce container. That comes out to about 27 cents per ounce.

If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains milk.

This has a lengthy ingredients list that includes “cooked beans” (it doesn’t say what type of beans, but I’m guessing they’re pinto beans like what refried beans are usually made with), along with black beans, tomatoes, sour cream, onion, and corn. It also contains gelatin, and Aldi does not specify the source of the gelatin. In addition, this contains some processed ingredients such as natural flavor, xanthan gum, and preservatives.

This dip consists primarily of beans, not surprisingly, since it’s called a bean dip. It has a small amount of corn and other ingredients, but this mostly has the consistency of refried beans. It reminds me somewhat of the bean-based 7-layer dip my mom sometimes makes for parties or potlucks. There are no directions on the container about whether to serve this hot or cold. I served it both ways for my family, and I think it’s best when it’s served cold, although some people liked it slightly warmed in the microwave. The loaded nacho dip that Aldi sells alongside this bean dip is our favorite, but this bean dip is a solid choice, too.

The Verdict:

Park Street Deli Fiesta Black Bean Dip features a refried bean type of base with some black beans, corn, onion, and various seasonings. If you like refried beans, of if you’re a fan of 7-layer nacho dips that feature refried beans, you might like this dip.
