Something Went Wrong with This Aldi Christmas Banner, and Shoppers Love It
Merry Chsistmas.
Merry Christaas.
Merry Chritmas.
What is going on here?
These are all examples of what some Aldi shoppers have found when they unpackaged the Merry Moments Holiday Garlands they purchased from the discount grocery store in mid-November of 2024.
It seems something went awry on the manufacturing line. The garlands are supposed to say Merry Christmas. Some of them do, but a lot of them … don’t.
Consider this one, posted on an Aldi fan Facebook page:
Besides scrambled or missing letters, some garlands also feature backwards letters, like the one below:
These garlands sold for $16.99 the week of November 13th. They were Aldi Finds, which means each store got one shipment. Once that sells out, they’re gone. Aldi does not offer online ordering for them if they’re gone from your local store.
The garlands are so bad, some people actually like them and feel like they’ve won something or are part of a special group of Aldi fans if they get a defective garland. It’s similar to the quirky sherpa gingerbread man pillow trend we saw earlier this holiday season at Aldi, where a product’s shortcomings make it a collector’s item in the eyes of certain dedicated Aldi fans.
Here are some more examples of these Aldi holiday garlands gone wrong:
And this one:
And this:
We also found this one, which seems almost too wild to be true. (Some people in the comments also questioned the legitimacy of this one and whether or not it had been altered.)
Occasionally, people unpackage their Aldi garland to find it’s totally normal, with correct spelling and no backwards letters. Isn’t that disappointing?
Ultimately, it’s a bit like playing the lottery, or eating a box of chocolates. If you buy this holiday garland from Aldi, you never know what you’re going to get.
