Trader Joe’s Cocoa Berry Black Tea Blend
Trader Joe’s knows how to rock the tea aisle. Some of my favorite teas have come from this retailer, which is a distant cousin to Aldi. TJ’s teas currently in my pantry include a maple espresso black tea blend, Winter Wake Up, and a lovely roasted herbal tea coffee alternative.
A new (at least to me) tea that I spotted on the shelves in February of 2025 is a cocoa berry black tea blend. I love black tea, and I love berries. It seemed like the perfect match.
We buy products with our own money for review. I paid $1.99 for a 0.6-ounce box of Trader Joe’s Cocoa Berry Black Tea Blend in February of 2025. Each box has 10 tea bags, which comes out to about 20 cents per tea bag.
It’s a little more expensive than some other black teas you might get from the grocery store, but it’s a specialty tea and it’s good enough that I think it’s worth it. It’s also still a lot cheaper than a coffee shop drink.
This tea is kosher. It’s a product of Canada.
The box states:
Crafted with a blend of high-quality black tea leaves, rooibos, roasted carob pods, and cocoa bean shells, this infusion creates a sensory journey which evokes a sense of warmth and indulgence. It’s perfect to drink as is or add a bit of milk and sugar for a luxurious latte.

Ingredients are black tea, rooibos, roasted carob pods, cocoa bean shells, natural flavors, licorice root, cranberry seeds, and cocoa powder processed with alkali. I’m not always a fan of natural flavors, but otherwise the ingredients list looks good.
This tea does contain caffeine. While rooibos tea is caffeine free, black tea contains 48 mg of caffeine per 8-ounce serving on average. That’s less caffeine than 8 ounces of coffee, which contains about 96 mg.
The tea bags are packaged individually in paper-style envelopes.
The box has directions for brewing traditional hot tea or for making this a tea latte.
For a hot brew, bring water to just below boiling. Pour the water over 1 tea bag and steep 5-8 minutes. Remove the tea bag. Add sweetener if desired.
For a tea latte, place 2 tea bags in 1/3 of a cup of hot water and steep for 8 minutes. Remove the tea bags and fill the rest of the cup with warm milk or dairy alternative. Add sweetener if desired.
So far, I’ve only made a traditional hot brew with this tea. It’s delicious and aromatic. It reminds me of a chocolate-covered strawberry in drink form.
I plan to try making it as a tea latte next, and I’ll update this post after I do.
The Verdict:
Trader Joe’s Cocoa Berry Black Tea Blend features a black tea base that also includes rooibos tea, carob pods, cocoa bean shells, natural flavors, licorice root, cranberry seeds, and cocoa powder. It both smells and tastes great. We’ll definitely be picking up a few more boxes if this tea is still in stock on our next Trader Joe’s run.
