Casa Mamita Crunchy Taco Shells

I have a repertoire of easy, relatively healthy dinners. It includes chili, baked salmon, oven fried chicken, and homemade turkey burgers.
Also on that list: tacos.
On busy evenings, I often cook up some ground turkey with homemade taco seasoning, then serve it alongside corn tortillas, crunchy taco shells, and assorted taco toppings. It’s quick. It’s simple. And everyone can customize their tacos to their liking.
I always buy all my taco ingredients from Aldi. That includes crunchy taco shells. They work as well as name brands, and I don’t seem to experience any more broken shells compared to other brands.
Casa Mamita Crunchy Taco Shells are a Regular Buy. That means you should be able to find them at Aldi any time of year. They’re stocked among the other Mexican-style foods such as refried beans, generic Ro-Tel, tostadas, and taco seasoning.
We buy Aldi products for review using our own money. I paid $1.49 at my local Aldi in early 2025 for a 4.6-ounce package containing 12 taco shells. That’s about 32 cents per ounce.
For comparison, a 4.6-ounce box of 12 Old El Paso Crunchy Taco Shells cost $2.18 at Walmart in early 2025, or about 47 cents per ounce. A 4.6-ounce box of Great Value Taco Shells cost $1.54 at Walmart, or about 33 cents per ounce.
The Aldi taco shells are a product of Mexico. The box advertises that they’re made with whole grain corn.
Ingredients are yellow corn flour, vegetable oil (palm oil or canola oil), water, and salt.
One serving is considered three taco shells. That will net you 150- calories, 6 grams of total fat (8% DV), 2.5 grams of saturated fat (14% DV), 150 mg of sodium (7% DV), 22 grams of total carbohydrates (8% DV), 4 grams of dietary fiber (14% DV), no sugars, and 2 grams of protein. Keep in mind that doesn’t include whatever you fill your taco with.

The back of the box has directions for heating the shells. Simply preheat your oven to 325 degrees. Remove the taco shells from the plastic overwrap and place them — unfilled — on a baking sheet. Bake for 6-7 minutes. Heating the taco shells in a microwave or toaster oven is not recommended.
If you want even more specifics about how to make tacos with these shells, the box also has “Preparation instructions for 12 delicious tacos.”
Crunchy Tacos:
Ingredients —
- 1 lb. ground beef (I use ground turkey)
- 1 box Casa Mamita Taco Shells
- 1 packet taco seasoning (I use homemade taco seasoning)
- 3/4 cup water
- shredded lettuce
- diced tomatoes
- grated cheddar cheese
Directions —
- Brown the meat in a skillet over medium heat. Drain and add taco seasoning mix and water. Mix well. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the shells from the plastic overwrap. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Heat unfilled shells on a baking sheet for 6-7 minutes.
- Fill each shell with 1-2 tablespoons of meat. Top with lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. You can also serve with optional garnishes such as salsa, sliced olives, chopped onions, sour cream, or sliced avocado.
The Verdict:
Casa Mamita Crunchy Taco Shells are as good as name brand crunchy taco shells in our experience. They’re cheap, easy, and customizable. If you like tacos, give these a try.

Maybe some day Aldi will produce these in a wide “Stand ‘n Stuff” version. Those are the only type of hard taco shells I buy these days. I find the regular ones to be a real pain in the you-know-what to fill – especially if you like to make tacos with other fillings besides ground meat.
These taco shells are extremely thin and break like crazy. Would never buy them again.
