Trader Joe’s Roti with Thai Red Curry

I enjoy sampling cuisine inspired by other parts of the world at Trader Joe’s, which is a cousin to Aldi. This eclectic grocery store sells everything from butter chicken to burrito bowls to biryani.

I recently picked up some Thai red curry with roti from the freezer aisle to try. The package describes this as “three flaky layered flatbreads with spicy vegetable red curry.”

The package also states:

A traditional Southeast Asian dish, we recommend serving Roti Canai with the curry in a bowl and the roti flatbread to the side. Tear off pieces of the roti to scoop the red curry and enjoy!

Heating Instructions:

The package has directions for heating both the roti and the red curry.

You can heat the roti on the stove top, in a conventional oven, or in an air fryer.

To heat the roti on the stove top, remove the roti from the packaging. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the roti and heat for 2-3 minutes on each side until crispy and heated through.

To heat the roti in the oven, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Remove the roti from the packaging and place it on a baking sheet on the center rack in the oven. Heat for 5-6 minutes, turn the roti over, and heat for an additional 5-6 minutes or until heated through.

To air fry the roti, remove the roti from the packaging. Place the roti in the air fryer basket and heat at 350 degrees for 2-3 minutes or until heated through.

You can heat the red curry on the stove top or in the microwave.

To heat the curry on the stove, thaw the curry packet in a bowl of warm water for 1-2 minutes until curry is loosened. Cut the corner of the packet and pour the curry into a small pot over medium heat. Heat for 4-5 minutes, stirring ocassionally, until heated through.

To heat the curry in the microwave, cut the corner of the curry packet and place upright in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 1-2 minutes. Carefully mix the contents by squeezing the packet. Heat for an additional 1-2 minutes or until heated through. Empty the curry into a bowl and serve.

Our Thoughts:

Trader Joe's Roti with Thai Red Curry
Ready to serve.

I fixed this for an easy workday lunch at home, and it was delicious. I heated the roti in my air fryer. They didn’t all fit in my air fryer, so I heated them in two shifts. I flipped them about halfway through, and they were nice and crispy after about 4 minutes total.

I heated the red curry on the stove top, and it was quickly ready.

The curry is maybe medium spicy, with large chunks of eggplant, bits of cabbage, and plenty of sauce. The roti is flaky and crisp, and it’s perfect for scooping up curry. I wish there was a little more of the curry, but there is so much roti that this is still a filling meal. I’d buy this again.

The Verdict:

Trader Joe’s Roti with Thai Red Curry features three roti flatbreads and a packet of spicy veggie curry with eggplant, cabbage, and seasonings. This is moderately spicy, and we think it’s delicious. If you like curry, this is worth a try.
