Earthly Grains 90 Second Basmati Rice
Indian-inspired meals are a staple in my household. I always have a few jars of butter chicken sauce or tikka masala sauce in my pantry. I can cook up some diced chicken breasts in a skillet, add the sauce, and have an entree ready to serve quickly. Or, when Aldi sells frozen butter chicken or chicken tikka masala, I stock my deep freezer with a few boxes.
There are certain accompaniments I serve alongside these entrees. Naan and basmati rice are must-haves, according to my family. I also air fry some mini samosas if I have them on hand.
When it comes to rice, Aldi sells a few options. You can buy dry rice that you cook in boiling water on the stove top. It’s not hard, but it does require rinsing the rice first, and the cooking process takes a little time.
If you want rice in a hurry, Aldi sells an option for that as well. The grocer stocks a selection of different types of rice in 90-second microwavable pouches, and that includes basmati rice. The pouches are quick and convenient, and I always keep a few varieties in my pantry.
Earthly Grains 90 Second Microwavable White Rice Basmati Rice is a Regular Buy. That means you should be able to find it at Aldi all year.
This basmati rice cost $1.19 for an 8.8-ounce pouch in 2026. That’s around 14 cents per ounce. We buy Aldi products for review using our own funds.
This is sold under the Earthly Grains brand, which is not a company. It’s the name Aldi puts on various rice products it sells, which it sources from different suppliers.
Nutrition Facts and Ingredients:

Ingredients are water, basmati rice, sunflower oil, and soy lecithin.
One package is one serving, but that’s a lot of rice for one person. We usually get two or three servings out of this when it’s served with chicken tikka masala or some other entree.
The entire package/one serving has 360 calories, 4.5 grams of total fat (6% DV), 1 gram of saturated fat (5% DV), no sodium, 95 grams of total carbohydrates (35% DV), 3 grams of dietary fiber (11% DV), no total sugars or added sugars, and 8 grams of protein.
Heating Instructions:
The package has microwave instructions. Squeeze the pouch to separate the grains of rice. Partially tear open the pouch approximately 1 inch to vent. Stand the pouch in on a microwave-safe plate. Heat on full power for 90 seconds. Be careful when handling and opening the pouch, as contents are very hot. Let it stand for 30 seconds. Then pour the rice onto a plate, fluff with a fork, and serve.
Refrigerate any unused rice in an airtight container and consume within three days.
While the packaging states it is BPA free, I prefer to pour the rice into a glass dish and heat it in the microwave that way, rather than heating the plastic pouch in the microwave. I still heat the rice for 90 seconds, and it comes out fine.
How It Tastes:
This is typical basmati rice. It has a mild flavor that pairs well with Indian food, and the rice is cooked to a good consistency. This always goes quickly when I serve it as a side.
While it might not be as economical as cooking dry basmati rice from a larger bag or bulk package, the upside is that I can get rice on the table almost instantly on a busy evening.
The Verdict:
Earthly Grains 90 Second Basmati Rice is a quick way to have rice ready to serve alongside various Indian entrees. It microwaves easily, and we find that one package can serve at least a couple of people. It tastes good, too.
