Clancy’s Cheesy Garlic Bread Potato Chips

Not long ago, I was browsing with a friend in a local shop that carries British products. The shop’s selection ranges from tea sets and soccer fan gear to tea, shortbread, Turkish delight candy bars, and other treats that hail from England and Scotland. The potato chip rack especially caught our attention with its array of unique flavors including cheese & onion and prawn cocktail. Always adventurous when it comes to food, we couldn’t resist buying a few small bags to try at home with our families.

Having recently sampled those unusual (to American tastes, at least) potato chips, I noticed Aldi selling a novel potato chip flavor: cheesy garlic bread. I decided to go for it. It can be fun to try new things. Also, I like cheesy garlic bread, so I thought hopefully I’d like cheesy garlic bread potato chips. (Note: these Aldi chips are not a product of the U.K.)

Clancy's Cheesy Garlic Bread Potato Chips

Clancy’s Cheesy Garlic Bread Potato Chips are an Aldi Find at the time of publication, so they’re only in stores for a short time. Each store receives one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone unless Aldi decides to bring them back later. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not in stock at your local store.

Clancy’s Cheesy Garlic Bread Potato Chips cost $2.19 for a 9.5-ounce bag at the time of publication. With about 10 servings per bag, that comes out to about 22 cents per serving.

If you’re looking out for allergens, these contain milk. The bag states these are gluten free.

Clancy's Cheesy Garlic Bread Potato Chips

These cheesy garlic bread potato chips were a hit among my family. Everyone liked them so much they only lasted about a day, with some people packing chips in their school and work lunches for the next day.

These remind my family and me of cheddar and sour cream potato chips but with garlic flavor in the form of garlic powder added. In fact, the ingredients list includes sour cream powder. So if you’re a fan of cheddar and sour cream chips, you’ll probably like these. The flavors are not overpowering, and some chips seem like they’re more seasoned than others, but they definitely have notes of cheesy garlic bread.

In terms of the chips themselves, they’re satisfyingly crispy and have the consistency we expect from potato chips.

I don’t buy potato chips often, but I wouldn’t be opposed to buying these again the next time I see them at Aldi.

The Verdict:

Clancy’s Cheesy Garlic Bread Potato Chips take your favorite Italian dinner side dish and turn it into a crispy snack. These chips are seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, cheese powder, and sour cream powder. We thought they tasted a lot like classic cheddar and sour cream potato chips but with garlic flavor thrown in as well. If you like cheddar and sour cream chips, you’ll probably like these.
