Open Thread: Ambiano Window Air Conditioner

Most people don’t use the words “Aldi” and “air conditioner” in the same sentence, unless they’re perhaps complaining that a store is too hot or too cold. There are plenty of other companies we associate with climate control, none of them related to grocery stores.
Longtime Aldi shoppers, though, may be aware that air conditioners have made appearances on Aldi store shelves for years. Some of them have been window units, while others have been portable ones. Among the window units, Aldi has gone through a few different suppliers, ranging from A/C maker Danby back in 2019 to a series of different suppliers in more recent years. As is the annual routine, it’s summer and Aldi is back with another window unit air conditioner.
What We Know:
The Ambiano Window Air Conditioner (Product Code: 832550) is an Aldi Find, which means stores only get a single shipment. When that shipment sells out, the store doesn’t get any more until Aldi decides to bring the product back, which in this case is likely next year. If you can’t find them in your stores, you won’t be able to get one, as Aldi doesn’t ship online.
Aldi has sold past window air conditioners under its Easy Home private label, while this year it is selling them under its Ambiano private label. None of that is especially important as private labels aren’t separate companies, but it is still worth noting.
At the time of this post, the Ambiano window unit costs $119.99. Aldi A/C unit prices over the years have been about as volatile as the stock market, bouncing from $99.99 in 2019, to $129.99 in 2021, to $149.99 in 2022, and then down to $129.99 in 2023. In other words, the 2024 unit price is as low as it’s been in years. It’s also considerably less expensive than anything I can currently find on Amazon.
At present, there is no mention of any warranty or after-sales information either on Aldi’s spec list or on Aldi’s warranty site. In recent years, these units have come with a 1-year warranty, but check the box before you buy it.
Here’s what Aldi has to say about the air conditioner:

The specs Aldi has released don’t mention BTUs. However, given that every previous Aldi window unit has been a 5,000 BTU model — common among window units I’ve seen — I expect this one to be the same.
What We Don’t Know:
We’ve never tried out an Aldi air conditioner unit, although our posts about them from 2019 and 2021 have dozens of comments from shoppers. We’ve also created this open thread for users to share their experiences.

I bought one last year (2023)
Because I need our bedroom to be at about 68 degrees at night, we lower the thermostat. However, on 100 degrees days, it’s tough to get our central AC to get down to that temp. Voila – this window unit in the bedroom works great. Our Central AC remains at 76; in the evening, I turn this little window unit on high, close the bedroom door, and by the time we go to bed 3 hours later, the bedroom is at about 68. Before climbing into bed, I turn the unit to low. My only complaint is that it’s noisy, but in my experience, that’s pretty much true for any window unit. The noise doesn’t keep me awake, but being too warm at night sure does!
