Radiance Toilet Bowl Cleaner with Bleach

For years, if I ever found toilet bowl cleaner at Aldi it was usually a name brand. The aisle with cleaning supplies and paper products is one of the places in Aldi where you’re more likely to see national brands such as Dawn dish soap, Cascade dishwasher pacs, Tide laundry detergent, or Fabuloso multi-purpose cleaner.

Aldi still carries its share of house brand cleaning products, though. Radiance is the name of the Aldi private label that encompasses cleaning products. There is no company called Radiance. It’s simply the name Aldi puts on these products to give them a uniform look, and Aldi sources its products from various suppliers. The Radiance line includes disinfectant wipes, dishwashing liquid, “Magic Eraser” cleaning pads, duster kits, and more.

Recently, I noticed Aldi is selling more cleaning products under the Radiance brand. They include a multi-purpose cleaner with bleach, a bathroom cleaner, a glass cleaner, and a toilet bowl cleaner. I picked up all of the products to try at home.

Here, I’m putting the toilet bowl cleaner to the test.

Radiance Toilet Bowl Cleaner with Bleach

Radiance Toilet Bowl Cleaner with Bleach is a Regular Buy, which means you should be able to find it at Aldi all year.

This cost $1.89 for a 24-ounce bottle at the time of writing. That’s about 8 cents per ounce.

For comparison, a two-pack of 24-ounce Great Value Toilet Bowl Cleaners cost $3.48 or about 7 cents per ounce at Walmart at the time of writing. A two-pack of 24-ounce Lysol Power Toilet Bowl Cleaners cost $4.97 or about 10 cents per ounce at Walmart at the time of writing. You do have to buy two-packs to get those lower prices on other brands, but it does mean that the Aldi toilet bowl cleaner is competitively priced, and if you’re willing to buy multiple bottles of other store brands you might save a little.

This Radiance cleaner was made in Türkiye (Turkey). The front of the bottle describes this as “tough on stains” and says it “cleans and deodorizes.”

Ingredients are water, sodium hypochlorite, cocamine oxide, sodium hydroxide, sodium laurate, sodium silicate, sodium metaperiodate, pigment blue 15, and fragrance. The label states this contains fragrance allergens. The active ingredient is sodium hypochlorite (1.8%). This contains no phosphorus.

You use this like any other toilet bowl cleaner. Open the child-resistant cap by squeezing the sides of the cap on the indicator symbols and twisting counterclockwise one quarter turn. To reseal, turn the cap clockwise until it’s securely closed.

To clean the toilet, start with a flushed toilet. Squeeze the bottle around the inner rim of the toilet to coat the inside of the bowl. Scrub the entire bowl with a toilet brush and allow to sit for 10 minutes. Keep children and pets away during this time. Flush the toilet and rinse if needed.

The label also has the usual warnings. This might cause skin irritation. It is corrosive and causes eye irritation and damage and should not be swallowed or inhaled, of course. The label recommends wearing protective gloves / clothing / eye protection / face protection while using. You should wash your hands after handling this product.

The bottle also warns not to mix with acidic products or ammoniated products. It may damage painted surfaces, aluminum, brass, copper, galvanized, and/or other soft metals.

With the cap in the open position.

The first thing I noticed when I went to clean my toilets with this was that the cap was a little difficult to open. It opens like a lot of name-brand toilet bowl cleaners. You simply squeeze the sides of the cap and turn it, and the cap is supposed to pop up and open, but the cap does not generally come off the bottle.

With this Aldi toilet bowl cleaner, it was hard to get a good grip on the cap to squeeze and turn it. When I did, the cap was likely to come completely off the bottle, like in the picture below. The cap that comes off has a hole in the top, so it’s obvious it’s intended to stay on the bottle and the cleaner is supposed to flow through that hole when you squeeze the bottle. The bottle still works fine with the cap removed, but I feel like there are some design flaws in how the lid works.

With the cap accidentally popped off.

As far as getting my toilet bowls clean, it does the job just fine. It cleans things up and leaves that classic bleach scent. However, because this lid is a bit finicky, and because other store brands might be the same or slightly less in price, I’m not sure whether I’ll continue to buy the Aldi toilet bowl cleaner.

The Verdict:

Radiance Toilet Bowl Cleaner with Bleach works well at getting toilets clean. It’s an open question whether you’ll save money buying a single bottle of this cleaner versus a two-pack of another store’s house brand such as Walmart’s Great Value. We also found that opening the lid on the Aldi cleaner was a less user-friendly process compared to other toilet bowl cleaner brands. For those reasons, we’re not certain this will become a regular item in our shopping cart.

  1. I purchased a bottle of Radiance from Aldi. Like you said, it was a little difficult to open the top. Major issue I had was that the liquid was clear. You can’t tell how much is squeezed out and where. Since it’s only one cent cheaper than Lysol, I won’t be purchasing it again.

  2. I love the toilet bowl cleaner! I normally use the Lysol one. I had a stain I couldn’t remove. The Aldi brand got rid of that. Completely impressed. I had no problem with lid. Funny. Because I always had issues with the Lysol lid.
