Aldi Cutting Prices Up to 50% on Thanksgiving Groceries

Thanksgiving savings

Aldi announced this week that starting on November 1st, 2023, it will drop prices up to 50% on more than 70 classic holiday food products such as potatoes, gravy, cranberries, green beans, and pumpkin pie. The price cuts also apply to certain baking supplies such as butter and flour. Aldi says customers will see savings on these products through the entire holiday season, until the end of the year.

This is similar to Aldi’s move in 2022 when they announced they would “rewind” prices on certain holiday favorites back to 2019.

The grocer’s motto for their 2023 holiday pricing is “save more, seat more.” Aldi is marketing this as a way for customers to afford to invite three more people to their holiday feasts. They’re even a bit tongue-in-cheek about it, stating in their press release: “As the holiday synonymous with delicious food and celebrating with loved ones, Thanksgiving shouldn’t break the bank or force hosts to make difficult decisions about which quirky cousins or neighbors to invite.”

Dave Rinaldo, president of Aldi, is quoted in the press release:

Thanksgiving is all about gratitude, and we’re so grateful for our many loyal customers from coast to-coast. With inflation still looming, we’re providing shoppers extra relief to make the holidays a time for celebration, not stress. What’s served on the Thanksgiving table is just as important as who’s sitting around it, so Aldi is delivering big savings on key items so there’s always room for more guests.

In addition, the chart below shows some of the items Aldi has reduced prices on. The only thing we see that’s 50% off is the Stonemill Regular Gravy Mix at the top of the list. Still, these prices look good to us.

  1. Two weeks before Halloween, Aldi has reduced prices on some holiday stuff. I bought a 25′ spider web with two huge scary spiders for $7.50, which is half price, and much less than comparable products elsewhere..

I see that the press release doesn’t include the full list of reduced-price holiday groceries. I have noticed in past years that Aldi often does NOT have the best price on Thanksgiving turkey, as supermarkets will often have “loss-leader” specials on the birds, often connected with a minimum purchase of other groceries. Since it seems to be more difficult to find prices for specific products at the local Aldi online, the best option might be to go to Aldi first, WITH a copy of whichever supermarket ad shows the best “loss-leader” special on turkey, buy whichever items on one’s shopping list are cheaper at Aldi from Aldi, then go back to the supermarket with the “loss-leader” special on turkey, and buy the rest of one’s groceries there. (After 40 years of buying Thanksgiving dinner ingredients, I know that meeting a minimum purchase requirement to get a cheap turkey shouldn’t be a problem for anyone!)
