CVT Soft Serve Vanilla Ice Cream Coming to Aldi

Soft serve ice cream is its own unique treat. It has a different consistency than traditional ice cream, and it’s not exactly something you can buy in a grocery store. You usually find it only at fast food eateries such as Dairy Queen or McDonald’s (cue jokes about broken ice cream machines), or at concessions stands in theme parks or sporting venues.

So, when I saw soft serve ice cream in the latest weekly Aldi ad, it got my attention.

What We Know:

CVT Soft Serve Vanilla Ice Cream is an Aldi Find. That means each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone unless Aldi decides to bring it back later. Aldi does not offer online ordering if this is out of stock at your local store.

This is scheduled to arrive in stores June 25th, 2025.

CVT Soft Serve costs $3.99 for 6 ounces in 2025. That’s around 67 cents per ounce. One container equals one serving, or one pouch.

That’s right. This soft serve comes in a pouch, like what kids might slurp applesauce out of. The package says it’s “premium soft serve ice cream to go!” The label says to keep frozen and thaw to eat.

It seems a bit pricey considering that I can get an ice cream cone from McDonald’s for a couple of dollars at most. You’re paying for some convenience here.

CVT Soft Serve is not an Aldi brand. The company originated in Los Angeles in 2014 and now sells its products around the U.S. Depending on where you live, you may find it in some regular or specialty grocery stores. In my area, according to CVT Soft Serve’s store locator feature on their website, the only place selling it is the concession stand at an outdoor entertainment venue.

The packaging states:

Congrats on buying the first ever soft serve ice cream in the freezer aisle. No mess, and portable … How cool is that?!? There may be copycats down the road, but this is the original. Basically what I’m trying to say is, you have an eye for ingenuity and great taste in ice cream. If you’re new to CVT, our family recipe is proudly non-vegan, and we love us plenty of milk, cream, and sugar … This is not green juice! Like my dad always says, ‘Temptation doesn’t go on vacation,’ so if you’re gonna treat yourself, treat yourself!

One pouch (170 grams) has 310 calories, 18 grams of total fat (23% DV), 11 grams of saturated fat (55% DV), 70 mg of sodium (3% DV), 35 grams of total carbohydrates (13% DV), 1 gram of dietary fiber (4% DV), 34 grams of total sugars, 27 grams of added sugars (54% DV), and 3 grams of protein.

If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains milk. This is manufactured in a facility that processes other products that may contain soy, wheat, tree nuts, peanuts, and egg.

The package advertises “only 7 ingredients?!” Ingredients are whole milk (milk, vitamin D3), heavy cream, sugar, nonfat dry milk, natural ice cream stabilizer (guar gum, vegetable fiber, tara gum), natural vanilla flavor, and sunflower lecithin (emulsifier).

This does contain some processed ingredients, such as the gums, natural flavor, and sunflower lecithin.

What We Don’t Know:

We have yet to try this grocery store soft serve ice cream. In the meantime, we’ve written this open thread to give readers a space to discuss it.
