Easy Home Personal Table

EDITOR’S NOTE: Aldi sold this table again in August of 2023 for a lower price of $14.99, compared to the $16.99 we paid for it in 2022. This is part a larger trend we’ve seen where Aldi has been dialing down prices on many recurring Aldi Finds.
Years ago, my family used go over regularly to a friend’s house for dinner. The group that came to dinner was sometimes more than the host family had table space for. In the summer, some people might sit outside, while in the winter, people might sit out in the living room. The hosts kept a collection of TV trays just for that purpose.
Portable tables like TV trays are useful because they can create extra space when needed, then be stowed away, out of sight, when their duty is done. It’s table space when you need it, but with less clutter when you don’t, and it’s ideal for eating, working, small craft projects, or whatever you need a flat, stable surface for.
Appropriately, this is one of those things that you don’t appreciate how much you need until you really need it. Then, it’s incredibly useful. That’s why it’s probably not at the top of your shopping list, but it is still worth having on hand.
Aldi, the store that sells almost everything at some point, decided to sell such a portable table.
The Easy Home Portable Table (Product Code: 700819) is a limited time Aldi Find. Each store gets one shipment, and once the store has sold out, you won’t be able to get them. In addition, Aldi doesn’t ship products online, so if you can’t find them in your store, you’re out of luck until it comes back … if it comes back.
At the time of this post, the table costs $16.99. That’s a pretty good price as far as tables like this go: it’s less than all of the tables I can find on Amazon, and it’s also less than a very similar Mainstays model at Walmart.
The portable table is backed by a 1-year warranty, serviced by Cosco Products. (Not to be confused with the retail store Costco.) Cosco products makes various home furnishings, including a line of folding furniture like this one.
The item measures 25.6 inches long and 18 inches wide. It’s a little larger than a standard TV tray. Its height ranges from 25 inches to 28 inches depending on the setting you use (more on this in a moment). The table has a weight capacity of 30 pounds, which is about on par with a budget TV dinner table. You can find stronger options out there, but you’ll pay a lot more for them.
The table requires no assembly. You simply take it out of the packaging and unfold it.
To unfold the table, you slide a bar across a strap under the table. There are three notches where you can rest a crossbar, and those notches determine the height. The table height can vary by about 3 inches, which doesn’t seem like a lot but ends up being pretty helpful for getting the right height depending on the chair you’re in.
I’d say that the table is adequate to the task. The surface is a textured plastic and the legs are metal, which makes the table pretty light for its size. At the same time, it’s stable enough I could put food and drinks on it and feel comfortable they would probably stay there. The surface area is also pretty large, making it useful for, say, a large plate or a laptop.
The Verdict:
The Easy Home Portable Table is an inexpensive, lightweight table with a large surface space. It’s easy to unfold and store, and it has multiple height options to fit the need. The 30-pound weight limit isn’t huge but should be okay for holding a meal or a laptop. The one-year warranty adds a little peace of mind, too.
