If you’ve ever tried to cook or do other work in the kitchen with a young child around, you know it’s not always easy. Kids often want to be involved with what you’re doing and want to help, or they simply want to be near you. You can try setting up an activity table or a play kitchen and play food nearby. Of, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can pull up a stool or a chair and invite a child to work alongside you at the kitchen counter.

There is also another option if you want to allow a child to help you at the kitchen counter. A few years ago, I started seeing specially designed kitchen helper stools or towers that elevate young children so they can reach the counter while also staying relatively safe from falls. I’ve seen my sister-in law use one of these with her kids, and it has provided many hours of cooking education and fine motor skill practice in the kitchen. Her kids love climbing onto the stool to help crack and stir eggs or mix dough.

Aldi is always one to get on board with trends, and this year the discount grocery store is selling its own kitchen helper step stool under the SOHL Furniture brand. SOHL Furniture is not a separate company but rather is the private label Aldi uses for its furniture, including sling chairs, kids’ character stools, armchairs, accent benches, console tables, and more.

What We Know:

SOHL Furniture Kitchen Helper

The SOHL Furniture Kitchen Helper (Product Code: 707482) cost $89.99 at the time of publication. That is on the lower end of prices for similar stools I found on Amazon, with prices starting around $64 and going up to as much as $200 depending on the brand and style.

This is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone unless Aldi decides to bring them back, whenever that might be. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that aren’t in stock at your local store.

Here’s more information on the kitchen helper step stool, according to Aldi:

  • Features a 125-lb. weight capacity
  • Perfect for children to reach cabinets and countertops
  • Foldable design for easy storage
  • Assembly required
  • Dimensions: 22.05″ L x 22.05″ W x 36.81″ H

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t tried this kitchen helper stool, so we don’t know how easily it assembles or how sturdy it is. Aldi also has not yet published any information about whether this comes with a warranty. We write open threads so our readers can talk about their experiences with Aldi products.

  1. Was going to buy it but then we noticed it doesn’t have the first lower step for the child to get on to the platform. All the other kitchen helpers have that step. We were disappointed because its foldable and good looking but it seemed like it was too much of a leap to get to the platform for the little ones, so we passed on it.

    • The hole in the back is to be used as a step. Even without it my average height 18 month old had no issues climbing into it and I wouldn’t say she an adventurous climber. I personally like that it doesn’t have the step to trip over or take more unnecessary space in the kitchen. It’s not everyone’s preference but thought I’d point out the step is there.

  2. Didn’t come with instructions on putting the few pieces on. I like that the height is adjustable. Looking forward to using this. My toddler has been a mess unless she can help me.

    • Hi Marie- is the platform the kids stand on adjustable height? Also is there any sort of mesh catcher for the bigger holes? Looking to buy this but just wondering !
