While browsing the limited-buy Aldi Find freezer aisle the other day, I spotted a colorful package that reminded me of what you might see on a candy wrapper. Except the primary ingredient in this package is freshly frozen mango. The mango is coated in a thin, lightly crispy sour-sweet candy coating.

Fruit Riot Sour Mango Mix is advertised on the package as “freshly frozen mango splashed with lemon juice and a sour candy coating.” The bag proclaims, “Nature’s candy just got candy-er.” The candy coating features strawberry and peach flavors, and the label claims: “real fruit inside” and “sour candy outside.” The label also states, “Is it fruit? Is it candy? Cruit? Frandy? Who gives a fruit?”

With 3 grams of added sugar per serving, this looked like a way to enjoy dessert without as much added sugar as a typical dessert. Plus, it’s a serving of fruit.

Fruit Riot Sour Mango Mix is an Aldi Find, which means it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store should receive one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone unless Aldi decides to bring it back later. Aldi does not offer online ordering if this is out of stock at your local store.

I paid $5.89 for an 8-ounce bag in 2026. We buy Aldi products for review with our own funds. That comes out to about 74 cents per ounce. There are about eight servings per package, or around 74 cents per serving.

The package says this is produced exclusively for Beyond Better Foods, LLC, based in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. (Beyond Better Foods also produces Bada Bean Bada Boom snacks, which Aldi occasionally sells.) The Fruit Riot Sour Mango Mix was produced in Mexico.

Fruit Riot offers other candy-style frozen fruit options, including sweet or sour grapes, sour pineapple, spicy mango, and Olipop-flavored cherries.

This product is not an Aldi private label, and it is not exclusive to Aldi. I found it selling for $5.97 at Walmart and $5.99 at Target. So, once it sells out at Aldi, you may be able to find it at other retailers.

The bag has some suggestions and guidance. It mentions that the sizes of the mango chunks will vary “because nature doesn’t copy + paste.” You should also be cautious giving this to young children because it may pose a choking hazard. In addition, the sour candy coating may cause temporary oral irritation in sensitive mouths. Finally, keep this package frozen or else the fruit will get mushy and won’t refreeze well.

Those of us in my household who like sour candy and sour foods liked this. The candy coating is moderately sour and evoked plenty of puckered expressions, but the sour flavor is tempered by the sweetness of the mango. Some pieces seemed more sour than others. Most of the mango chunks seemed perfectly ripe and were pretty easy to bite into, but a few pieces may have been less ripe and were harder.

This snack might be less enjoyable if your teeth are very sensitive to cold temperatures. Letting your serving sit out for a few minutes can help soften the mango and might make it less of a cold shock on your teeth.

The Verdict:

Fruit Riot Sour Mango Mix is a limited-time special at Aldi, but you may be able to find it at other retailers. It features chunks of frozen mango in a sour candy coating. If you’re wanting a dessert that has a serving of fruit and less added sugar, and if you like sour foods, this is worth a try.
