I’ve Been Gardening Most of My Life, and These are the Best Aldi Gardening Supplies I’ve Used

I’ve been gardening ever since I took over the small plot in my family’s backyard when I was a teenager. It’s a relaxing and fulfilling hobby for me. I get to spend time outdoors in nature while also enjoying the fruits of my labor, whether in the form of flowers and foliage or literal tomato fruits.

Gardening can be as simple and inexpensive or as elaborate as you want it to be. I’ve purchased garden supplies everywhere over the years, from small locally owned nurseries to large big box chains to retailers with a large online presence such as Burpee or Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company.

I’ve also found Aldi to be a surprisingly good place to buy gardening gear. What follows is my personal list of favorite Aldi gardening supplies that I’ve found useful in my own yard. Keep in mind this is not a comprehensive list of gardening products at Aldi. If you have a favorite Aldi gardening product, feel free to — politely — share it in the comments below.

Also note that the products listed here are all Aldi Finds, which means they were only in stores for a short time. Aldi doesn’t offer online ordering products not currently in stock at your local store. That means that if you want one of these products, you’ll have to wait for it to possibly come back around to Aldi stores, although sometimes certain products never return.

Gardenline Mini Drop Over Greenhouse

The Gardenline Mini Drop Over Greenhouse

I own three of these mini drop over greenhouses, and they’re just the right size to place in my large raised garden bed. I like drop over greenhouses that sit directly on the garden soil better than the greenhouses with shelving that Aldi also sometimes sells. The advantage to a greenhouse that sits right in the garden is that you can start seeds in the actual garden rather than messing with pots and containers. You also don’t have to worry about weight limits on shelves. Even though temperatures are now warm enough to not require greenhouses where I live, I still have these set up in my garden, but I leave them open for ventilation. Leaving them set up helps to deter digging squirrels, birds, and other nuisance animals in the garden.

Gardenline Walk-In Greenhouse

While I mentioned above that I love my drop over greenhouses, I’ve also found the Aldi walk-in greenhouse to be useful in the garden. Specifically, I used it to grow tomato plants. I didn’t use the shelving much and instead put large containers directly on the ground. I left the door flap open for ventilation but did string up some netting over the door, and it was an effective way to keep squirrels from stealing my tomatoes. If you haven’t already guessed, a large part of the gardening experience in my yard is figuring out ways to keep local wildlife from interfering with your plans.

Gardenline 4-Tier Greenhouse

Gardenline 4-Tier Greenhouse

This 4-tier greenhouse was the first greenhouse of any substantial size that I bought from Aldi. It works fine for starting seeds. Just keep in mind that the shelves can be flimsy and do have weight limits. The size of this greenhouse also makes it ideal for storing empty containers, pots, and other gardening supplies when I’m not using it for starting seeds.

Gardenline Garden Hat

Spend much time gardening and you’ll quickly learn that sun protection is essential. Besides sunscreen, I picked up this gardening hat from Aldi last summer, and it’s great for yardwork. I also took it to the beach on vacation.

Gardenline Garden Seeds

Seeds are inexpensive to buy at a lot of places, from garden centers to dollar stores to Aldi. I’ve bought my share of Aldi seed packets through the years, and they grow as well as other brands. The variety is limited, but I can usually find peppers, herbs, and other common garden seeds.

Gardenline Garden Soil

Gardenline Garden Soil

Quality soil is essential whether you’re filling a raised bed or looking to enhance the natural soil in your garden. I have found Aldi garden soil to be a good deal and to work reasonably well. It’s the primary soil in my 8-foot-by-4-foot raised bed.

Gardenline Potting Mix

Likewise, Aldi potting mix works great in all of my container gardening efforts. I hardly buy anything else.

Gardenline Dual Head Plant Grow Light

If you’re starting seeds indoors or simply looking to give a little extra light to some indoor houseplants, this grow light from Aldi fits the bill. I use this with some houseplants that are positioned a little farther from windows.

Ambiano Smart Indoor Garden

Ambiano Smart Indoor Garden

Aldi only sold this indoor smart garden one time, in the spring of 2021. It’s similar to name-brand Aerogardens that use hydroponics to grow plants with water and no soil. While the Aldi garden didn’t come with some essential parts to get started (grow sponges, seeds), I was able to find what I needed on Amazon. It’s been fun to use this on my kitchen counter to grow fresh herbs and flowers.

Gardenline Lattice Planter

Gardenline Lattice Planter

To the best of my knowledge, I’ve only seen Aldi sell these lattice planters one time, in the summer of 2020 when everyone was going full speed ahead with gardening projects. These are the perfect containers for growing tomatoes, sugar snap peas, or anything that needs some support. They eliminate the need for tomato cages, for instance. I also like that they look a little bit like the Eiffel Tower on my patio. Now that my lattice planters are several years old, the plastic is starting to get brittle, so I’m hoping Aldi will bring these back at some point.

Gardenline Plant Stands

These simple little plant stands are great for using indoors or on my covered porch. I put houseplants on them, and they can hold containers of fairly substantial size and weight.

Gardenline Everbearing Raspberries

Gardenline Everbearing Raspberries

What you see here came from two little bare-root raspberry plants I bought four years ago. They’ve grown into this large patch that fills a 2-foot-by-4-foot raised bed, and I’m even seeing some plants starting to establish themselves just outside the bed’s borders. I have to water this a lot in the spring and summer when berries are forming, so they don’t dry out on the canes. However, it’s a lot of fun to have fresh berries.

Belavi Trellis

I have four Aldi trellises in different designs in my garden. They work for supporting everything from berry canes to sugar snap pea vines. Even better, more than once I’ve found Aldi trellises on clearance for just a few dollars. It’s well worth having a few of these around the yard.

Gardenline Ladies Garden Boots

Aldi hasn’t sold this exact style of garden boot in a few years, but they still occasionally sell gardening boots. These have been great for slipping into especially for quick garden chores such as taking out the compost. Cat not included.

Gardenline Raised Bed

It’s also been a while since Aldi sold any raised garden beds like this one, which I purchased in 2018. The kit was manufactured by Frame It All, which makes a variety of garden beds and gardening products. The system I bought is modular and can be used with multiple kits to create larger beds. Mine finally warped some after several years of use, but it’s still functional and adds structure to my garden.

  1. pity they dont do 1/2 of these in the uk aldi store

  2. The kneeling bench. It turns over to use as a seat and I use it both ways almost every day in the garden season. The corner tool caddy. I have two of them, organizing most of my garden tools. I have several Aldi hand pruners in various sizes and all are better than some I’ve paid much more to buy. Men’s garden clogs. Kind of like a Dutch wooden shoe made of plastic. Easy to slip on for a quick trip to the herb patch. I bought one of the drop-over greenhouses last summer, it is still in the box. Your recommendation inspires me to give it a second look.

Love all these greenhouses and have used 3 different ones. Each has its advantages. There is also a Gardenline metal fence sold in sections that is durable and useful.

    • Greenhouse falls apart and crumbles in Australian sun, it doe not last even full summer. You get what you paid for…

  4. I always get gloves and pruners at Aldi; the pruners are cheap enough to not have to worry about sharpening them and they are surprisingly heavy duty. The Fall Bulbs (daffodils and alliums) have been great, as well as the several sedum plants. Waiting to see how the spring lily bulbs I purchased a few months ago turn out.

This year’s winner though was the Gardenline Interlocking Garden Edging. There’s 20 six-inch-long pieces in each box which makes it very easy to install (some digging required in the heavy clay soil here) since you don’t have to put it all in at once but connect as you go along. Plus the lattice design is very attractive, nicer than any edging I’ve found in the big box stores

    • I’ve bought Aldi bulbs before, and I agree they’re good! I planted a bunch of Aldi daffodils and tulips more than a decade ago, and they come up and bloom reliably every spring.

  5. 1. I love my garden line kinkfree lightweight hoses. 2. KNEEPADS, good for so many uses inside and out. 3. And can’t agree more about the pruners. They’re as cute as they are good quality.
