Mama Cozzi’s Cheesesticks

If spaghetti is on your menu, garlic bread is a given. Aldi sells Texas toast garlic bread along with a cheddar biscuit mix as year-round Regular Buy products that you can purchase any time, and the grocer also rotates several different kinds of limited-time ALDI Find (Special Buy) garlic breads, garlic rolls, and cheese bread sticks into its inventory throughout the year. One popular ALDI Find option is the Mama Cozzi’s Cheesesticks, but remember these only show up in stores for a short time.

Mama Cozzi's Cheesesticks

Mama Cozzi’s Cheesesticks were $2.69 at the time of publication for an 11.5-oz. box containing five sticks. They’re described on the package as “5 mozzarella filled garlic bread sticks,” and they’re advertised as being made with 100% real cheese.

The ingredients are a lengthy laundry list, as one might expect for a processed food like this. The primary ingredient in the bread sticks is enriched flour, with other ingredients including but not limited to low moisture part-skim mozzarella cheese, soybean oil, sugar, and salt. The garlic spread covering the bread sticks includes, among other things, ingredients such as a vegetable oil blend, garlic, sweet cream buttermilk, soy lecithin, mono- and diglycerides, onion powder, natural flavors, and xanthan gum.

If you are watching out for allergens, the bread sticks contain wheat, milk, and soy.

One serving consists of one bread stick, which nets you 200 calories, with 70 calories from fat, along with 8 grams of total fat (13% of your daily value), 3 grams of saturated fat (16% DV), 10 mg of cholesterol (3% DV), 310 mg of sodium (13% DV), 23 grams of total carbohydrates (8% DV), 1 gram of sugars, and 8 grams of protein.

The bread sticks can be prepared in a conventional oven (recommended for best results), toaster oven, or microwave oven.

To bake in a conventional oven, preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Place the cheesesticks on a baking sheet and heat 8 to 10 minutes or until heated thoroughly. For softer sticks, wrap them in foil before placing in the oven.

To prepare in a toaster oven, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Place the cheesesticks on a baking sheet and heat 8 to 10 minutes or until heated thoroughly.

To prepare in the microwave, place one cheesestick in the microwave and heat on high for 1 minute. Let stand in the microwave for 1 minute before serving.

I baked our cheesesticks in a conventional oven. They are a bit messy upon opening the packaging because each bread stick is coated with a frozen but still greasy garlic butter spread. They baked up nicely in my oven, and much of the garlic spread was absorbed into the bread, making them less messy to handle after they are baked.

My family liked the cheese filling inside each bread stick, although some of us thought they could have used a little more cheese. Some family members thought the bread sticks were on the bland side, with not as much flavor as we expected considering that they contain garlic and cheese. Still, they were not bad, and they all got eaten, but I’m not sure they were a big enough hit that I would purchase them again.

The Verdict:

Mama Cozzi’s Cheesesticks are filled with mozzarella cheese and slathered in a garlic spread. They don’t have as much garlic and cheese flavor as some other cheesy garlic breads, but they’re not bad, and they all disappeared when served alongside a pasta dinner.

  1. Purchased the Mama Cozzi’s cheese sticks breadsticks and they are wonderful, soft buttery and delicious. I’m going to buy all I can get before they’re gone….. I hope they have a case of them.

  2. I just tried these out. I agree, they are a little more bland than I was expecting, but overall not bad. One interesting thing, I got 7 sticks in the package even though it said it comes with 5. I wonder if they are all like that or if I got lucky.
