Mama Cozzi’s Rising Crust Cheesy Mac n’ Meat Pizza
Not long ago, I discovered some rising crust pizzas in the Regular Buy freezers at Aldi. I’ve long been a fan of rising crust pizza, which features a thicker, chewier crust that gets a bit crispy around the edges. Aldi sells pepperoni rising crust pizza and four cheese rising crust pizza year round, so they’re good for keeping stocked in my deep freezer for busy evenings when we need an easy, quick, and inexpensive dinner.
Then, this week I found some rising crust pizzas with special limited-edition toppings in the Aldi Find freezer aisle. I’m always up for trying new pizzas in the limited-buy freezer section at Aldi, especially when the toppings are really novel, so I picked up one of each rising crust pizza variety. They come in a Mac n’ Meat variety and a Sloppy Joe variety.
Here, I’m taking a look at the Mac n’ Meat rising crust pizza. The package says this is “topped with chili sauce, low-moisture mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, enriched macaroni, sausage made with pork and chicken, and beef topping.”
Mama Cozzi’s Rising Crust Cheesy Mac n’ Meat Pizza is an Aldi Find, which means it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone unless Aldi decides to bring it back later. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not currently in stock at your local store.
This cost $4.99 for a 26.5-ounce pizza at the time of publication. That comes out to about 19 cents per ounce. With about five servings per pizza, that’s about $1 per serving.
If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains wheat, milk, and soy.
This has plenty of calories, fat, sodium, and carbs, so it’s not something to eat all the time. One serving (1/5 of the pizza) has 330 calories, 9 grams of total fat (12% DV), 3.5 grams of saturated fat (18% DV), 760 mg of sodium (33% DV), 50 grams of total carbohydrates (18% DV), 2 grams of dietary fiber (7% DV), 4 grams of total sugars, 3 grams of added sugars (6% DV), and 13 grams of protein.
The package has directions for baking this in the oven. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Remove pizza from the packaging. Place the frozen pizza directly on the center rack of the preheated oven. (I placed the pizza on a special pizza baking pan.) Bake for 19-22 minutes or until cheese is melted and edges are golden brown.
This pizza took about 20-21 minutes in my oven. It baked up like other rising crust pizzas I’ve gotten from Aldi: thick, chewy, and lightly crisp on the edges.
My family all approved of this pizza. The flavor reminds us of chili mac, since this features a chili sauce rather than traditional pizza sauce. It’s topped with plenty of sausage and beef, a generous amount of elbow macaroni noodles, and a good amount of cheese. Served alongside a fresh salad, this was a fun change-up to our usual pizza night.
The Verdict:
Mama Cozzi’s Rising Crust Cheesy Mac n’ Meat Pizza features a thicker crust that’s topped with chili sauce, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, sausage, beef, and elbow macaroni noodles. It’s like a mashup of chili mac and pizza, and it’s surprisingly good. Get it while it lasts.
