I’ve been on many an excursion where I benefitted from a folding chair. Food truck nights in the local park. Outdoor concerts. Picnics. Day trips. Camping trips. In some cases, it’s more useful compared to a blanket; in other instances, it was pretty much necessary.

The problem with traditional folding chairs is that they’re on the bulky side, especially if you’re carrying more than one. That’s not necessarily a deal-breaker in many cases, but there are times when it’s just too much. If you’re backpacking into a remote campsite or if you’re trying to cut down on space in a vehicle, a normal chair might not cut it.

Enter the compact folding chair. Designed to provide some seating in a smaller profile, these can be invaluable if space and / or weight is at a premium. Aldi has been selling one of these for a few years now.

What We Know:

Adventuridge Lightweight Portable Chair

The Adventuridge Lightweight Portable Chair (Product Code: 700984) is an Aldi Find, meaning it’s only in stores for a short time. Stores get just one shipment, and once that shipment is sold out, the store won’t get any more. Aldi doesn’t ship online, either, so if you can’t find it in stores, you’re out of luck until Aldi sells it again, likely next year.

At the time of this post, the chair costs $17.99. That’s a few dollars more than it was a couple of years ago, but it’s still much lower than any other chair like this I can find out there.

According to Aldi, the chair’s features include:

  • Comes in green or blue
  • Quick setup frame and corner loops for convenience
  • Comfortable and durable
  • Includes carry bag with handle for storage and transportation
  • Dimensions when open: 20.5″ x 20.5″ x 26.6″
  • Weight limit: 250 lb.
  • Lightweight
  • Features a powder-coated iron frame

The chair comes with a 2-year warranty, serviced by Westfield Outdoors, which makes a variety of outdoor equipment.

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t tested out this specific chair, so we don’t know how easily it sets up and packs, or how long it lasts. That’s why we’ve created this open thread for users to share their experiences.

  1. Steel tubing version weighs about 3.3#. Similar at Walmart $25, but lighter weight 2.2# aluminum one also $25. Ebay has steel versions under $20 shipped, aluminum under $23 shipped.

  2. Bought one of these on saturday and it collapsed the first time I sat in it! The plastic knuckle that all the rods plug in to tore, no way to repair it making the chair useless! Haven’t had time to return it yet.

  3. I weigh around 170 and am 6 foot tall. Chair came with piece besides chair sling and l have no idea what it is for as it does not appear to fit properly anywhere on the frame and does not appear on any of the photos l see online of the chair. Chair went together realatively quickly and appears to be stable in use. It is also more comfortable than some others of this type l have sat on.
