Radiance Bathroom Cleaner

Housecleaning is a task that never seems finished. In the morning, I can clean my bathrooms and get them in ship shape, and by nighttime there is more to clean up, whether it’s toothpaste drips in the sink or smudges on the mirror. Or, I can start the day with clean floors, and by the end of the day I’m spotting food crumbs and pet hair. Let’s not even talk about the dishes that materialize in the kitchen. Fortunately, Aldi sells budget-friendly cleaning products.

Not long ago, I found a slate of newer cleaning products — including toilet bowl cleaner, multipurpose cleaner, and glass cleaner — under the Aldi house brand, Radiance. There isn’t any company called Radiance that makes these products. Rather, that’s the name Aldi puts on its various home cleaning products, which it might source from different suppliers. In the Radiance line, I’m a fan of the disinfectant wipes as well as the liquid dishwashing soap.

Among the newer cleaning items I found at Aldi was a bottle of general purpose bathroom cleaner. It contains bleach, and it advertises that it “removes mildew and other tough stains.” It also says it “cuts through soap scum instantly.” I was definitely curious to see how this cleaner compared to name brands like Scrubbing Bubbles that I often use in my bathroom.

Radiance Bathroom Cleaner

Radiance Bathroom Cleaner appears to be a Regular Buy. That means you should be able to find it at Aldi all year. It was made in Türkiye (Turkey).

This cost $2.29 for a 32-ounce bottle at the time of writing. That comes out to about 7 cents per ounce.

For comparison, a 32-ounce bottle of Great Value Bathroom Cleaner with Bleach cost $1.48, or about 5 cents per ounce, at Walmart at the time of writing. A 32-ounce bottle of Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Grime Fighter cost $4.17, or about 13 cents per ounce, at Walmart at the time of writing. Or, a 30-ounce bottle of Clorox Bathroom Disinfecting Cleaner cost $4.78, or about 16 cents per ounce, at Walmart at the time of writing.

So, the Aldi bathroom cleaner is competitively priced. You might be able to find a slightly better deal if you buy other store brands, but the Aldi cleaner is a lot less than name brands.

The back of the bottle states this “quickly removes unsightly mildew and other tough stains from ceramic tiles, grout, toilet bowls, sinks and many other unpainted surfaces. It is formulated to put the power of bleach to remove mildew stains on contact without heavy scrubbing.”

Ingredients are water, sodium hypochlorite, cocamine oxide, sodium hydroxide, sodium silicate, sodium metaperiodate, and fragrance.

The instructions state to only use in well-ventilated areas. Simply spray onto the surface to be treated, wait for five minutes, and rinse clean. One application will usually do the job. For extremely heavy buildup, use the product again after 30 minutes.

The bottle has the usual warning labels: keep away from children, read the label before use, don’t breathe in the fumes, avoid eye and skin contact, etc. It recommends wearing protective gloves/clothing/eye protection, and you should wash your hands after cleaning. It also says not to mix with acidic products. In addition, this may damage painted surfaces, aluminum, brass, copper, galvanized, and other soft metals.

This works fine for cleaning my bathrooms. I use it to clean tough spots on showers and tubs in particular. It has a clean scent with noticeable bleach smell, and you’ll of course need to be careful not to get this on clothing or other items that the bleach could ruin.

The Verdict:

Radiance Bathroom Cleaner is among the lower-priced bathroom cleaners out there. It contains bleach to help get rid of tough stains and mildew, and it works on soap scum as well. If you need to clean your bathroom on the cheap, this will do the job.
