Serra Ladies Cuffed Denim Shorts
Aldi clothing is very hit or miss. Sizing and proportions are usually the main culprits. Our most recent Aldi clothing flops have been Serra swimsuits and wrap dresses, which all in all just lacked functionality. One of Aldi’s recent ads featured women’s jean shorts, and since I practically live in jean shorts during the summer, I gave Aldi clothing another chance.
The Serra Ladies Cuffed Denim Shorts are an Aldi Find, which means they’re in stores for a limited time, and once they’re gone, they’re gone. You can’t order them online if they’re sold out at your local store.
They cost $8.99, which is much cheaper than I’ve found them anywhere else, and they come in four styles. Per usual, sizing is limited. Light wash came in sizes 6, 10, 12, and 14. Dark wash came in sizes 8, 12, 14, and 16. White and pink are only available in two sizes, with white in 6 and 8, and pink in 10 and 12. I purchased the light wash shorts in a 6, which is what I typically wear.
The packaging advertises 4 functional pockets, a zipper fly, distressed wash, and rolled cuffs.
Care instructions say to wash before wear, and wash inside out on the cold, gentle cycle with like colors. Use non-chlorine bleach, tumble dry low, and use a cool iron.
Out of the packaging, the shorts looked decent enough. The jean fabric was high quality, and the stitching appeared to be fine. But it was smaller in the waist than all my other jean shorts, so, like some previous Aldi clothing I’ve tried on, getting it over my hips was a challenge.
Once on, the shorts just felt too tight, both in the waist and legs. Plus, on the back left side of the shorts, the fabric rippled and puckered a bit, which could be caused by a number of reasons, including if the pattern pieces weren’t the same size, and things had to be adjusted. I liked the cut of the jean shorts, so I was really hoping they’d fit and I’d be able to wear them this summer, but they just aren’t comfortable enough for me to think about using them for everyday wear.
The Verdict:
The Serra Ladies Cuffed Denim Shorts are going back to the store soon. The last few Serra items I’ve reviewed have all suffered similar fates. Aldi clothing often just doesn’t fit like it should, and this has been a problem for years. We’ve had a few pieces of successful Aldi clothing in the past, especially with shoes or classic t-shirts, but these shorts won’t be added to that list.
