SimplyNature Strawberry Fruit Strips

In my quest to find healthy food for school lunch boxes that my kids will actually eat, I tried Aldi’s SimplyNature Strawberry Fruit Strips. They’re basically a healthy substitute for Fruit Roll-Ups.

SimplyNature Strawberry Fruit Strips

These fruit strips are part of Aldi’s SimplyNature product line that is free of artificial ingredients and preservatives, and they come in two flavors: strawberry and raspberry.

As far as lunch box foods go, these seem pretty wholesome. The ingredients list for the strawberry fruit strips reads: apple puree concentrate, apple juice concentrate, ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), strawberry juice concentrate, citrus pectin, natural flavor, vegetable juice (carrot, cabbage) for color, and lemon juice concentrate.

They offer 100% of your daily value of Vitamin C, and one single-serving strip contains 50 calories, 0 grams saturated fat, 5 mg sodium, and 8 grams of sugar. I appreciate the fact that they have no added sugars and no high fructose corn syrup. The box also advertises the fruit strips are gluten free and lactose free, and they have a Non-GMO-Verified seal from www.nongmoproject.org.

My local store sells these for $4.99 for a “value pack” box of 21 0.5-ounce strips. That comes out to about 24 cents a strip, and you should be warned that the individual fruit strips are not that large. This is not a food that will fill you or your kids up. I view it more as a small treat. But given the fact that they’re less than 25 cents a serving, that doesn’t seem too bad for something that is organic, pre-packaged, and certainly better than Oreos or Doritos in my kids’ lunch boxes.

The Verdict:

Aldi’s SimplyNature Fruit Strips come in strawberry or raspberry flavors. They are made with real fruit and contain no added sugars or high fructose corn syrup. Individual servings are small, so they will not fill you up, but they make for a nice lunch box treat, especially if you are looking for a healthier alternative to traditional sugary Fruit Roll-Ups or fruit snacks. Recommended.
