Aldi Bringing a Bauhn Projector Back to Stores

EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated for 2025.

Starting in 2021, Aldi took to bringing an LED projector and an inflatable screen to stores. Outdoor activities grew in popularity during the pandemic of 2020-2021, with places like drive-in movie theaters seeing a surge in traffic. Whether that’s the reason Aldi started selling these, the fact remains that they’ve become an annual staple on the grocer’s summer limited buy shelves.

Most recently, the projector is returning to Aldi stores. (We have not seen the inflatable screen advertised recently.)

It’s important to note that the projector has changed some over the years. Aldi sold the Medion LED Projector in 2021, and it sold the Bauhn LED Projector in 2022 and 2023. Each of those — even the ones with the same name — have been a different model each year, with some differences in design and some small differences in specs.

Let’s take a closer look at the 2025 projector, which looks identical to the one Aldi sold in 2024.

Keep in mind that this is an Aldi Find, which means each store gets one shipment. Once it’s sold out, you won’t see anything like it until it comes back, possibly next year. You can’t order it online if it’s not in stock at your local store.

What We Know:

The 2025 Bauhn HD LED Projector is currently priced at $59.99. That’s up from $49.99 for an identical projector in the summer of 2024. That’s also down from $129.99 in 2021, $99.99 in 2022, and $69.99 in 2023.

It’s not clear from the specs Aldi published if this reduced price comes at the expense of features or not. Either way, the current price is lower than most anything else I can find on Amazon, which hasn’t always been the case in past years.

Here’s the spec list Aldi has published:

  • High definition resolution 32 inches to 208 inches
  • Features multi-use HDMI port
  • HDMI cable and remote control included
  • Supports 720p/1080I/1080P
  • Includes built-in speakers
  • Comes with carry bag for easy transport
  • Includes phone mirroring capability

From the details in previous Aldi ads for the same projector, we also know it utilizes Bluetooth 5.3 for high speed stable connection and can connect up to 10 meters. It can stream from any mobile device.

A few observations. One, the native resolution on this projector looks to be 720p. At least one of the past projectors said it supported 1080p, but it’s not clear of this year’s model does the same.

Two, there is no listed distance range. All of the past projectors had a distance range of 4.82 feet to 20.67 feet, and that would seem to be the likely range of this model.

What We Don’t Know:

We’ve never tried out any of Aldi’s projectors, so we can’t speak to image quality or durability. We create open threads like this one so people can share their experiences.

  1. The Aldi website says this projector has Bluetooth but after buying one it looks like it only allows wired connections. Anyone else have this issue?

  2. Have one now. TBD if I’ll keep it. It’s telling my mac that it’s 1080p but it’s definitely not! I’ve put some test screen tests through, and it’s show something closer to SD I’m not even confident it’s hitting 720, did some estimating based on pixel size that seemed to suggest an actual vertical res of around 620. It’s a fair bit brighter than a free one I got off a neighbor. My biggest issue is that it’s not getting along with my firestick. It’s telling my mac that it’s a display called a hichip tv but that hasn’t turned up much additional info.

  3. I have tried using my phone (plugged in via USB) and my Roku and I’m not getting it to work on either. I can get to the streaming services on the Roku, but I am not able to get any video. Only sound. I’ve tried the settings and am not getting any resolutions. The only thing I can do with my phone is mirror. But when I go to play a video, it says the connected device (I assume they mean the projector) is not compatible and cannot play the video. Any help is appreciated. I have an Android if that helps, and it doesn’t seem to recognize that when I go to Wired Device on the projector home screen (even though I’ve downloaded the app multiple times.) Please help!

  4. Is this model HDCP compatible? I am not getting it to work on my Android phone and my Roku is saying it’s not compatible.

  5. I am having same issues as mentioned above. I’ve tried every device I own and multiple connection types whether it be casting, HDMI, Bluetooth or wired. I’m at a loss with this purchase. I’m either getting a copyright error or the hdcp error. Apps and games seem to work.

  6. Its not HDCP compatible.

It doesn’t play protected content such as from the amazon prime app, but it does screen mirror files on the phone or video on the web.

I searched online and found there are some low cost work arounds to get HDCP content to work.

    1. What were the work arounds to make it work? I have had the same issues listed from others but the main one is the HDCP error! How were you able to get around this.

  7. Hi,

I am also receiving the HDCP error when I try to connect my Roku or Firestick. Also when screen mirroring from cell phone. My projector has no Bluetooth connection. Has anyone found a solution?

  8. I purchased this for my wife’s birthday and I’m starting to regret the purchase! No bluetooth connection, constant HDCP errors while trying to steam. Tried multiple connections (hdmi/usb), three different iPhone models, and the only thing that worked was steaming YouTube or having the projector mirror my phone up until I try to play anything. The only thing i haven’t tried is hooking a dvd player up to it but that really is going to be a PITA! If no one else figures out a good way to make this work, I might just return it.

  9. Purchased this recently. Tried to get the Android app but it does not seem to exist. Very expensive paperweight.
