Southern Grove Jumbo Roasted Salted Peanuts

Last Updated on June 3, 2019

EDITOR’S NOTE: During summer 2019, these appeared as a Seasonal Favorite rather than an ALDI Find. That means you could find these for longer stretches of time rather than just one delivery’s worth. It’s possible it may revert to being an ALDI Find other times of the year.

I love peanuts. They are, along with cheese, one of my favorite snack foods. Peanuts have been a go-to for me since I was a kid.

Now, for ease of use you can’t beat Aldi’s traditional clear container of dry roasted peanuts. Those sorts of peanuts are simple to dig into, and they can be eaten with a minimum of fuss and mess. Sometimes I’ll pack one of those things in my lunch sack and eat it as part of the daily midday meal for weeks on end, usually as a side to a sandwich.

My heart, though, truly belongs to another classification of peanut. Namely, the shelled kind. These peanuts are neither fuss-free or mess-free; they’re the ones you crack open, eat, repeat, and eventually clean up after, possibly with a dustpan or vacuum. These are the peanuts that speak to baseball games and camping.

Southern Grove Jumbo Roasted Salted Peanuts are an ALDI Find (Special Buy). That means that these show up in stores only every once in a while. This, of course, makes me unhappy, because if I had my way they’d be a fixture on the shelves. On the upside, they do seem to be a semi-annual ALDI Find — in other words, I usually find them in stores more than once a year.

What is there to say about them? The Southern Grove shelled peanuts come in a beefy bag, and they look the part. And they taste the part, too: I’ve had plenty of shelled peanuts, from generic store brands to tiny overpriced bags at baseball games to mid-priced store bags with baseball logos emblazoned on them. The Aldi shelled peanuts are every bit as good as any shelled peanuts I’ve gotten anywhere else, from the crisp roasted peanut to the pitch-perfect layer of salt.

The Verdict:

The Southern Grove Jumbo Roasted Salted Peanuts are pure baseball in a German grocer. If you like shelled peanuts and you see them inside Aldi, just get them. Or, better yet, don’t, so I can have them all instead. Highly recommended.

  1. Today I was at ALDI and I picked up a bag of southern grove jumbo peanuts roasted, and they were the worst peanuts that I’ve ever had, ever.

    • That’s too bad: peanuts are my favorite snack food and I can say that the only peanuts that I like better than Aldi peanuts are a handful of national brands. That said, Aldi will refund (and replace, if you want) your peanuts, so if you don’t like them, I’d take them back.

  2. I second that. They had some 40 oz containers on the shelves during the holidays and I bought two. So crunchy and delicious and at a great price. I wish they had them all year long. Since they don’t, I have to buy them from Publix for over double the price.
