Southern Grove Mountain Trail Mix
Trail mix is a staple in my house. It’s a good anytime snack and a great food to take hiking or on camping trips. It’s also shelf-stable, which makes it ideal to stock up on in case of power outages or other emergencies.
Not all trail mixes are created equal. Some are healthier, with mostly nuts and dried fruits. Others are more like a dessert, with multiple candy and cookie add-ins and a high added sugar content. I like a trail mix that strikes a balance, with mostly good-for-you ingredients and a bit of sweetness.
The Southern Grove Mountain Trail Mix from Aldi fits the bill. This trail mix features peanuts, raisins, cocoa gems (off-brand M&Ms), almonds, and cashews, with a bit of salt.
Southern Grove Mountain Trail Mix is a Regular Buy. That means you should be able to find it year-round at Aldi. It’s stocked among the other nuts and dried fruits.
I paid $5.95 for a 26-ounce package at my local Aldi in 2026. That comes out to around 23 cents per ounce. One bag has about 25 1/4-cup servings, which comes out to about 24 cents per serving. We buy Aldi products for review using our own money.
The label states this is a product of Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, Ghana, Indian, Indonesia, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, the United States, and Vietnam.
Nutrition Facts and Ingredients:

The allergen listing is a bit odd. I’ll let it speak for itself: this contains milk, peanuts, soy, and tree nuts (almonds, cashews). Also, it may contain peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, wheat, milk, and soy.
The has a kosher dairy certification.
The bag also notes this may contain an occasional shell fragment. We’ve never encountered any in all the years we’ve been buying this.

The ingredients list is pretty simple: nuts, raisins, candy, almonds, cashews, oil, and salt. The official full ingredients list is longer, but most of that is all the ingredients that go into the chocolate candies.
The full ingredients list is peanuts, raisins (raisins, sunflower oil), cocoa gems (confectionary coating [sugar, hydrogenated palm kernel oil, cocoa powder, whey powder, nonfat milk powder, soy lecithin {an emulsifier}, vanilla], sugar, and less than 1% of tapioca syrup, coloring [titanium dioxide, vegetable juice, turmeric oleoresin, spirulina extract], gum acacia, carnauba wax), almonds, cashews, sunflower and/or peanut and/or canola oil, and salt.
One 1/4-cup serving has 140 calories, 9 grams of total fat (12% DV), 2 grams of saturated fat (10% DV), 95 mg of sodium (4% DV), 14 grams of total carbohydrates (5% DV), 2 grams of dietary fiber (7% DV), 10 grams of total sugars, 4 grams of added sugars (8% DV), and 4 grams of protein.
This has a good carbs-to-fiber ratio of 7:1.
Our Thoughts:
This is my family’s favorite trail mix at Aldi. It has lots of peanuts, almonds, and cashews for some protein, fiber, and healthy fat. The raisins provide some chewy sweetness and more fiber. The “M&Ms” make it feel like a real treat, but with just 4 grams of added sugars.
I keep a couple of bags in the house all the time, and everyone likes snacking on it. If we’re going on a road trip or picnic, we often toss a bag in a cooler to keep the chocolate from melting. Overall, it’s one of the best mixes at Aldi.
The Verdict:
Southern Grove Mountain Trail Mix features peanuts, raisins, cocoa gems (basically M&Ms), almonds, and cashews. We like that this has plenty of nuts, some dietary fiber, and low added sugars. The chocolate candies are a nice touch.
