Specially Selected Stone Oven Baked Artisan Flatbread + Chicken Alfredo Flatbread Recipe

In our house, we’re big fans of the naan Aldi sells. It’s a great accompaniment to all kinds of Indian dishes.

Something that is similar but not quite the same as naan is flatbread. There are differences in ingredients and texture. Flatbreads tend to be popular for serving like pizza, baked with various toppings.

Aldi sells flatbread in the store’s baked goods aisle, and I decided to try some recently. The back of the package features a recipe for Chicken Alfredo Flatbread, which you can make using ingredients all purchased from Aldi. I gave it a go.

Specially Selected Stone Oven Baked Artisan Flatbread is a Regular Buy, so you should be able to find it at Aldi any time of year.

We buy Aldi products ourselves for review. I paid $4.15 for a 14.1-ounce package at my local Aldi in late 2024. That’s around 29 cents per ounce. One package contains two flatbreads, which comes out to about $2.08 per flatbread. There are eight servings total per package (four servings per flatbread), or about 52 cents per serving.

This is a product of Canada. The package states it’s “perfect for pizzas and appetizers.” It is kosher.

If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains wheat. It may contain eggs, milk, soy, and sesame.

Ingredients include enriched wheat flour, water, soybean oil, cultured wheat flour, salt, sugar, dried sourdough (wheat flour, rye flour, yeast, ascorbic acid, enzymes), yeast, vegetable mono- and diglycerides, extra virgin olive oil, and durum wheat semolina.

A fourth of a piece of one flatbread is considered one serving. A serving has 160 calories, 4 grams of total fat (5% DV), 0.5 grams of saturated fat (3% DV), 280 mg of sodium (12% DV), 1 gram of dietary fiber (4% DV), 2 grams of total sugars, 2 grams of added sugars (4% DV), and 4 grams of protein. (Keep in mind that the nutrition information will change depending on whatever toppings you add.)

The package has heating instructions. Remove the pizza from the packaging and top with your favorite ingredients. Choose your desired cooking method:

  • Place on a baking sheet (for a softer crust) and bake at 425 degrees for 7-8 minutes.
  • Place directly on oven rack (for crispier crust) and bake at 425 degrees for 5-6 minutes.
  • Place on a preheated pizza stone and bake at 425 degrees for 5-6 minutes.

The package also mentions the crust (in its original packaging) can be frozen if you want to save the flatbread for later. I often freeze the similar naan packages Aldi sells, so I always have them on hand for different meals, and they thaw fine.

The back of the flatbread package also has the aforementioned recipe for Chicken Alfredo Flatbread. I made the recipe, using all-Aldi ingredients. It turned out well. The recipe was a little on the salty-tasting side but otherwise good. The flatbread itself is soft, doughy, and nicely chewy after baking. If you’re wanting to make a custom-topped flatbread, this Aldi option is a good one.

The recipe is below. Note that the recipe is for just one flatbread, or half of the package. I doubled it and made both flatbreads in the package. I put olives on only one flatbread. We also were out of peppers, so I omitted those.

Chicken Alfredo Flatbread:

Ingredients —

  • 1 Specially Selected Artisan Flatbread (half of the package)
  • 1/2 cup alfredo sauce
  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced roasted yellow peppers
  • 1/2 cup diced roasted chicken breast
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • seasonings to taste
  • dried chili flakes if desired

Directions —

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Top flatbread with alfredo sauce, spinach, feta, mozzarella, peppers, chicken, and olives. Season and add chili flakes if desired.
  3. Place topped flatbread directly on the middle rack in a preheated oven for 7-9 minutes or until the cheese has melted and started to brown. For a softer crust, place the topped flatbread on a baking sheet and increase bake time to 9-11 minutes. I baked our flatbread on a baking sheet.
  4. Remove from the oven. Slice and serve immediately.

The Verdict:

Specially Selected Stone Oven Baked Artisan Flatbread is sold in a two-pack in the baked goods section at Aldi. It’s ideal for making various pizzas, and you can customize the toppings. If you need inspiration, there’s also a recipe for a quick Chicken Alfredo Flatbread using jarred alfredo sauce and other easy ingredients. We approve.
