Squishmallows Micromallows 12-Day Advent Calendar
Since their creation in 2017, Squishmallows have become a staple of tween culture. You can find them almost anywhere, from big box stores like Target and Walmart, to more tween-targeted stores like Claire’s.
The squishy, huggable plushes come in a variety of cute designs, including animals, food, and even licensed characters from franchises such as Disney and Pokémon.
Something that sets some Squismallows apart from other stuffed animals is the price. The average Squishmallow could set you back $10, but others cost much more, so you expect higher quality. Aldi has sold both real and dupe versions of Squishmallows in the past. In the spring of 2020, we purchased a few of the dupes from Aldi, and they haven’t held up too well over the years, tearing in multiple places.
I’ve never owned any real Squishmallows until now.
The Squishmallows Micromallows 12 Day Advent Calendar is $29.99, and it’s an Aldi Find. This means each store gets one shipment, and once they’re gone, they’re gone. You can’t order this online from Aldi if it’s sold out at your local store.
Technically, this calendar gives you 12 days of “Micromallows,” which are 2.5 inches tall compared to their larger counterparts. Unlike the other toy Advent calendars at Aldi this year, this is only a 12-day Advent calendar, which makes sense because of the price of Squishmallows. One Micromallow from Target is $4.99, so this calendar is a surprisingly good deal as you’re only paying around $2.50 per toy.
I looked around to see if this calendar was sold anywhere else, and I discovered that Target sells a 24-day version of the calendar for $64.99 at the time of writing. That’s around $2.70 per toy, so it’s slightly higher than the Aldi price for the 12-day calendar, but you’re also spending more money overall. We also found the 24-day calendar on Amazon, but it was selling for more than $100 at the time of writing, or at least $4.16 per toy.
Amazon has the 12-day calendar as well, but at the time of this post, it’s selling for more than $90, which is about $7.50 per toy. So unless you’re willing to spend more for the larger calendar, Aldi is going to be your best bet for the smaller version of the calendar.
One thing to note is that there is an image on the back of the box that shows all of the 12 Micromallows you’ll get, and there’s no way to remove it. So if you’re planning on giving this to someone and you want each day to be a surprise, I’d suggest covering the back somehow.
The calendar opens up to reveal the 12 doors, and the first door revealed a hot chocolate Micromallow. It was one of my favorites in this calendar, and I thought they were all really cute.
Some of them were pretty basic, like the Christmas tree and snowman; they were essentially little balls with images printed on them, but they were cute nonetheless. There were a variety of animals, objects, and food decked out in holiday swag, from Darcy the dog as an elf, to Benny the bigfoot wearing a green fuzzy hat.
They all had removable tags with their names and little paragraphs with information about them, which I enjoyed looking through. They’re so small, they aren’t really huggable, but they’re great for squishing in your hand and setting on desks and dressers as little buddies.
The Verdict:
The Squishmallows Micromallows 12 Day Advent Calendar is an Aldi Find for $29.99. It’s part of Aldi’s large Advent calendar stock for the week. This was one of my favorite calendars to review over the past few years, and I know it’s a calendar that will probably sell fast. I hope it returns next year, but I suggest getting it soon if it’s been calling to you.
