Milk is my favorite drink. I know a lot of people who don’t like to drink milk plain, but I love it. I also like chocolate and strawberry milk. When I saw in a recent Fearless Flyer that Aldi’s cousin Trader Joe’s was selling Fair Trade Cocoa Chocolate Milk, I thought it looked good.
Since this is made with fair trade cocoa, it means that the farmers are paid a fair price for their goods. This chocolate milk at Trader Joe’s cost $3.99 per half-gallon carton. Compared to other chocolate milks, the price is about average. Retailers like Walmart sell half gallons of chocolate milk for less, but it does not contain fair trade cocoa.
Each serving size is 1 cup, with 220 calories, 4.5 grams of saturated fat, 8 grams of total fat, and 19 grams of added sugars. This is made with whole milk with 3.25% milkfat, and it’s kosher, ultra pasteurized, and has vitamin D added. It’s also Grade A and homogenized. Of course, this milk is perishable and should be kept refrigerated.
If you’re looking out for allergens, naturally this contains milk. Ingredients include milk, cane sugar, skim milk, a cocoa powder mix, salt, gellan gum, guar gum, natural flavor, and vitamin B3.

I’m a fan of making my own chocolate milk by mixing chocolate syrup with white milk to make it chocolate flavored, but this milk is pretty good as well. The texture is slightly thicker than white milk, and it tastes like chocolate.
The texture is nice and creamy, and this milk tastes good. It has a lot of vitamins and it’s pretty healthy — other than the added sugars — and filling. I don’t drink store-bought chocolate milk very much since I tend to drink homemade more, and so I can’t compare a ton, but from what I’ve had before, I’d say this is some of the better chocolate milk that I’ve had.
This is Trader Joe’s Chocolate Milk, so it can only be bought at Trader Joe’s. It doesn’t come in as big a jug as white milk, which is something I’ve noticed with a lot of different chocolate milks, so to get a full gallon you’d just have to buy two.
The Verdict:
This is one of my favorite chocolate milks that I’ve had. I think that the milk is a good price and taste, and I would recommend this.
