Trader Joe’s, which is a distant cousin to Aldi, has a nice selection of personal care products. In fact, in some ways, I like the TJ’s personal care product aisle more than I like the personal care aisle at Aldi.
Friend and fellow Aldi Reviewer writer Elizabeth clued me in to how good many of the personal care items at Trader Joe’s are. In recent years, I’ve become a fan of TJ’s daily facial sunscreen, Nourish facial moisturizer, face and body sunscreen lotion, shampoo and conditioner, and Formula No. 3 Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash.
I’m always on the lookout for different Trader Joe’s products I haven’t yet tried. When I spotted some moisturizing face lotion with sun protection during a summer TJ’s run, I picked up a bottle. I use moisturizer on my face and neck just about every morning, and I like when it has some SPF, so this looked to be right up my alley.
Trader Joe’s Enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion cost $4.49 for a 4-ounce bottle at the time of publication. That comes out to about $1.12 per ounce.
I took at look at prices for some other face lotion brands I’ve used. A 3-ounce bottle of CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 30 cost about $3.98 per ounce at Walmart at the time of writing. A 4-ounce bottle of Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15 cost about $$3.74 per ounce at Walmart at the time of writing. A 4-ounce bottle of Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15 cost about $4 per ounce at Walmart at the time of writing.
That makes the Trader Joe’s face lotion a great deal by a long shot. As much as TJ’s has a reputation for being a bit fancy, their prices are often quite reasonable, as is the case with this lotion.
Here’s more information about this face lotion:
- Broad spectrum UVA/UBB protection with SPF 15
- Fragrance free
- For all skin types
- Light and non-greasy
- Enriched with Vitamins A, C, and E
- PABA free
- Non-comedogenic (does not clog pores)
- Cruelty free
Active ingredients are octinoxate (6%) and zinc oxide (3%), both of which act as sunscreens.
The back of the bottle directs you to apply liberally on the face and neck 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply at least every two hours. If you’re swimming or sweating, use a water-resistant sunscreen instead.
I’ve been using this for a while now as a daily moisturizer in the mornings after showering. It works as well as other name brands I’ve used, and for a fraction of the cost. It isn’t greasy, doesn’t make me break out, and absorbs into my skin well. It’s good not just for the faces, but also the neck and the upper chest or décolletage area … anywhere you want to moisturize and add some sun protection. If I have some left over on my hands after applying it to my face and neck, it’s also great to rub into my hands — especially on the tops — for some sun protection and moisture as well.
The only thing I don’t like about this lotion is that the cap gets a little messy over time as you use it. Still, this might make it into my shopping cart again. I definitely like how well it works, and the SPF factor is a bonus.
The Verdict:
Trader Joe’s Enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion is a good facial moisturizer option, and it has a broad spectrum SPF 15 rating for sun protection. It’s great to use on its own or under makeup. It isn’t greasy and goes on light. It’s also fragrance free. We think it works as well as a lot of name brands, but it costs a lot less. The only minor downside is that the cap gets a bit messy after you’ve used it for a while.
Trader Joe’s moisturizing face lotion is nearly identical to Oil of Olay’s — same size & shape of the bottle & almost the same ingredients.
Thanks for that information. These products often imitate name brands, but I wasn’t sure which one in this case.
I have been using this product for the past few years and find it perfect for most days. I like that I can layer it with other products without my face feeling greasy or weighted down. I agree that the cap gets messy which is a little bothersome.
