Trader Joe’s Slim Size Paper Towels

I’ve made a big move over the years to using fewer paper towels in my house. We have a supply of reusable cloth napkins for meal times. I use dish cloths or dish towels to wipe up spills. I’ve also recently started using Swedish dish cloths for some cleaning projects. This not only helps to reduce our use of paper products, which require natural resources. It also saves us money because we can wash and reuse napkins and dish cloths rather than throwing them out after using them one time.
However, there are still times when we need paper towels. They’re handy for especially gross or messy cleaning jobs, for packing for picnics or in school lunches, or sometimes even for covering or wrapping food in the microwave. So I usually keep a small supply of paper towels, and they tend to last us a long time because we aren’t using them daily.
I recently picked up some paper towels from Trader Joe’s, which is a distant cousin to Aldi. TJ’s sells 2-ply paper towels in a three-pack, so you can’t necessarily buy paper towels in bulk easily from Trader Joe’s, but they fit my needs.
Trader Joe’s Slim Size Paper Towels cost $3.99 at the time of writing for a package that contains three 2-ply rolls. That comes out to about $1.33 per roll. With 150 sheets per roll and a total of 189.06 square feet, that’s about 3 cents per sheet or about 2 cents per square foot. Each rectangular sheet measures 11 inches by 5.5 inches.
For comparison, a pack of 12 double rolls of Great Value paper towels from Walmart cost $15.84 or about 3 cents per square foot at the time of writing. I was not expecting Trader Joe’s paper towels to be cheaper per square foot than the Walmart house brand, so that’s a pleasant surprise.
The package states these are 100% recycled and made with 80% post consumer content. They’re marked with a Forest Stewardship Council seal. No chlorine bleach was used during the manufacturing process.
These work as well as other store-brand paper towels, including Aldi Boulder paper towels, which are my usual go-to when I need paper towels. They’re of a similar softness and thickness.
The Verdict:
Trader Joe’s Slim Size Paper Towels are 100% recycled and made with 80% post consumer content. They’re sold in a three pack with 150 rectangular sheets per roll. These actually cost less per square foot than Walmart’s Great Value house brand, and they work as well as other paper towels we’ve used. If you need paper towels, these are worth picking up at Trader Joe’s.
