Trader Joe’s Vegetable Masala Burger

Burger nights in my house tend to feature homemade turkey burgers. I make them with fresh ground turkey from the meat aisle at Aldi, and they really hit the spot, especially when served alongside a salad. Or, sometimes we enjoy chicken burgers, veggie burgers, salmon burgers, or other seafood-based patties.

I was shopping at Trader Joe’s, which is a cousin to Aldi, when I saw some veggie burgers with an Indian twist. The package states these have “authentic Indian spices.”

We buy products for review using our own funds. I paid $3.49 for a 10-ounce package of Trader Joe’s Vegetable Masala Burgers in 2026. That comes out to about 35 cents per ounce. With four burgers per package, that’s around 87 cents per burger.

If you’re looking out for allergens, these contain wheat.

These are vegan.

The full ingredients list is potatoes, canola oil, carrots, green beans, bread crumbs (wheat flour, sugar, yeast, salt), bell peppers, onions, corn, water, salt, sugar, spices, ginger, cellulose gum, green pepper, citric acid, and turmeric. It would be useful to know what “spices” are in these burgers.

The box has directions for heating these from frozen on the stove top or on a barbecue grill. The burgers are fully cooked, so all you have to do is heat and serve.

To heat on the stove, lightly oil and preheated pan or skillet. Heat burgers for 3-4 minutes per side or until thoroughly heated.

To heat on a grill, butter or oil both sides of the burgers. Grill on both sides until thoroughly heated. Grilling times may vary.

Ready to serve after heating on our Aldi pizza grill.

I heated these on a countertop pizza grill I bought from Aldi, which is good for cooking burgers and all kinds of other foods. I cooked them for about 5 minutes on each side to brown them some. They don’t look terribly exciting on their own, but when served on a bun with toppings of your choice (anything from lettuce and tomato to a little bit of mayo, or whatever sounds good to you), they are quite good. My family thought these tasted like samosas, and we liked them. They’re not spicy at all either.

They don’t hold together like a traditional burger, so you’ll want to be careful when transferring them from your skillet or grill. I’m not sure how well they’d hold up to heating on a regular grill where they might fall through the slats, so I’ll probably stick with heating these on my pizza grill, which has a surface like a skillet.

The Verdict:

Trader Joe’s Vegetable Masala Burgers feature potatoes and various veggies with Indian spices. Their flavor reminds us of samosas, and we liked these. We’d buy them again.
