Trader Joe’s has a lot of exotic and unique foods that are fun to try, ranging from macarons to tikka masala to stroopwafels. But Aldi’s cousin also has plenty of ordinary comfort foods for times when you want something more familiar. Frozen pizzas are among the more traditional options you’ll find at TJ’s. Today, we’re looking at a wood fired pizza.
Trader Joe’s Wood Fired Naples Style Uncured Pepperoni Pizza cost $4.99 for 15.2 ounces at the time of publication.
If you’re watching out for allergens, this contains milk, wheat, and soy.
One pizza contains three servings, with one serving netting you 390 calories (with 170 calories from fat), 19 grams of total fat (29% DV), 7 grams of saturated fat (36% DV), 30 mg of cholesterol (11% DV), 840 mg of sodium (35% DV), 40 grams of total carbohydrates (13% DV), 3 grams of dietary fiber (14% DV), 4 grams of sugars, and 16 grams of protein.
To prepare this pizza, preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the frozen pizza directly on the center rack (I used a metal pizza pan with holes) and bake for 8-10 minutes or until cheese is melted and slightly brown and crust is golden.
This pizza was done after about 10 minutes in my oven, and it came out golden and melty and cheesy. I served it on a busy school night alongside a Rich and Charlie’s-style salad, and my family happily ate it all. One person remarked they really liked the crust, which has a flakier texture than some other pizzas we’ve tried. The sauce also has more tomato flavor rather than tasting like a seasoned pizza sauce, which is in keeping with a classic Naples style or Neapolitan pizza, which uses pureed fresh tomatoes as a sauce. Based on how much my family liked this, it’s a pizza I’d be likely to purchase again from Trader Joe’s.
The Verdict:
Trader Joe’s Wood Fired Naples Style Uncured Pepperoni Pizza features a simple tomato sauce topped with various cheeses and pepperoni. It was a hit in our house. Recommended.
