Benner Tea Co. Holiday Teas

Last Updated on December 7, 2023

EDITOR’S NOTE 1: If you’re looking for a review of the Benner Tea Co. Sugar Cookie Tea, which replaced the seasonal chai in 2023, click here

EDITOR’S NOTE 2: Most of the comments on this post come from readers trying to find the holiday teas. These teas are an Aldi Find (Special Buy), which means that Aldi only stocks a limited amount in a one-week window during the winter holidays, and once that supply is sold out, it’s gone, probably until next year.

At this point, Aldi doesn’t sell products online if they’re not currently in stock at your local store. So if you can’t find the tea at Aldi, you’ll have to either 1) search for similar teas under different brands at other stores or 2) wait until next year. If you wish Aldi carried this tea more often or you want to let Aldi know what you think, you can contact the grocer here.

While making my way to the checkout line at Aldi recently, I noticed some nontraditional flavored teas for sale. Aldi tends to be very boring traditional in this department, with mostly English Breakfast Tea and green tea among its Regular Buys, and Aldi occasionally sells some other flavors as Special Buys (ALDI Finds). I drink a cup of tea almost every morning, and I love new and unique flavors, so I end up buying a lot of my tea at other stores.

When Aldi recently carried some new selections as part of its Aldi Finds (Special Buys), I put one of each flavor in my cart.

Benner Tea Co. Holiday Tea

Let’s take a look at the Special Buy offerings:

Benner Tea Co. Candy Cane Tea

Benner Tea Co. Candy Cane Tea

This is a caffeine-free herbal tea that can be served hot or cold. The box contains 20 individually packaged bags. I was most excited about getting this because I love the name-brand Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane tea.

These two teas are not quite the same, though. For comparison’s sake, the Benner Tea Co. Candy Cane tea contains peppermint, cinnamon, spearmint, licorice, roasted carob, natural flavor, and chicory. It has a stronger mint flavor, and I couldn’t taste the other ingredients as much. In comparison, Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane tea contains peppermint, green tea, orange peel, natural mint flavor with other natural flavors, cinnamon, milk thistle, blackberry leaves, roasted carob, roasted chicory, and vanilla bean.

The Celestial Seasonings tea has a dominant peppermint flavor, but I can also readily taste the vanilla and other ingredients; it has a more nuanced flavor. In contrast, Aldi’s Benner Tea Co. Candy Cane tea tastes good, but if you want the classic Candy Cane Lane flavor, you’ll want to go with name-brand Celestial Seasonings. I also think Trader Joe’s Candy Cane tea has a more complex flavor, with peppermint and hints of vanilla.

Benner Tea Co. Cinnamon Spice

This is a solid caffeine-free herbal tea with good cinnamon flavor. It also comes with 20 individually packaged bags and can be served hot or cold.

The ingredients are cinnamon, chamomile, rose hip, rooibos, ginger, natural flavor, lemongrass, peppermint, and orange peel.

Overall, this makes a good, flavorful brew that can be enjoyed during the holidays and year round.

Benner Tea Co. Chai

Benner Tea Co. Chai

This caffeinated tea comes with 20 individually packaged bags and, again, can be served hot or cold. It’s advertised as “black tea with exotic spices.”

The ingredients are black tea, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom, cloves, and star anise.

I’ve sampled several other name brands of chai from other grocery stores over the years, and this one from Aldi was decent, but the flavor seemed a bit weak compared to other chai. It’s still good considering the low price. This is another brew that can be enjoyed year round and not only during the holidays.

The Verdict:

Aldi’s selection of Special Buy Benner Tea Co. holiday teas is solid. The candy cane variety has a nice mint flavor, and the cinnamon spice variety has plenty of cinnamon and good flavor. The chai tea seemed a little weak on flavor but was still decent. They are all good ways to get your daily brew without spending a lot of money, and it’s nice to see Aldi offering some new flavors.

I love the cinnamon spice tea that Aldi sells, but they only sell it a Christmas time. Where can I buy it other times of the year?

    • please tell me where to get this tea all year or how to order

I am looking for it, also if you find it let me know. I get a cup every night before I go to sleep to manage my sugar. It’s great. I live in Florida.

      • The Holiday Teas, at least right now, are an ALDI Find (Special Buy), which means that Aldi only stocks a limited amount, and once it’s gone, it’s gone, probably until the next year. At this point Aldi doesn’t sell their products online, in or out of season, so if you can’t find it in stores, you’ll likely have to either 1) get it from another store or 2) wait until next year.

  2. I love the cinnamon spice tea from Aldi’s too. Would love to see it sold throughout the year but do not see that happening. I am going to experiment to see what might be close. I have my eye on a apple cinnamon green tea that I found at walmart; one celestial seasonings one and one lipton.

  3. I love the Cinnamon Spice, but really want more. Where can I get it besides Aldi’s at Christmas time?

  4. I was at Aldi recently, and asked the manager about the cinnamon tea. I would love to order a case or two. I was told that they order a year ahead and that it wouldn’t be possible for me to get my own order.☹️

  5. Benner Tea is an Aldi brand. The West German concern that owns Aldi bought the old Benner Tea Company of Burlington IA in the late 70s. Benner Tea operated a small chain of supermarkets. This was the first beachhead of Aldi in the US. Nice to see that Aldi has revived the Benner Tea brand.

  6. I really enjoy Benner’s Spiced Chai Latte Mix. I purchased 2 cases earlier in the year during a special buy. I’m almost out now! When will this special buy be offered again? Thank you.

  7. HyVee Sweet Cinnamon Spice tea has the same exact ingredients and taste exactly the same or as near as possible to the same and is available all year

  8. I love cinnamon and Chai tea and Benner is the best. why cann’t they carry it all year. Is there why to get it?

  9. why was the paper wrapping removed from Benner tea bags

  10. I love this tea, but gave up trying to get it. It’s supposedly a holiday tea, but my Aldi hasn’t had it for the past three years. No one there seems to know anything about it when I’ve asked.
I found a delicious cinnamon tea online and am happy.

  11. Hi there! I am trying to purchase some of the candy cane tea from Aldi. Can you please let me know where I can find some. Thank you very much

I love Brennan Green Tea. I just bought two boxes but had a few of the old box left. Totally different. The new tea is very light. The old tea is very dark and way more delicious. Old tea in individual paper bags, new tea in clear cellophane. Can I buy the original?

  13. Just bought these yesterday (December 8, 2023). I was expecting the cinnamon spice to be herbal but the box now says it is black tea.

  14. I’m disappointed in the packaging of the tea. When each bag of my green tea is wrapped in plastic. What a waste and not environmental sound. I won’t be purchasing it again for that reason. I’m going back to another brand.
