Tuscan Garden Italian Salad Dressing and Seasoning Mix

Ranch dressing is consistently the most popular dressing in the United States. It’s a versatile dressing used for everything from salad to chicken wings. But it’s not the only dressing out there.

Italian dressing may be the stepchild of American dressing tastes, but it’s a common sight in American refrigerators, and it’s versatile in its own right. Aside from being a competent salad dressing, it also makes for a pretty good marinade and seasoning, including for meats.

Aldi sells a bottled Italian dressing, but the grocer also sells a powdered dressing and seasoning mix.

Tuscan Garden Italian Salad Dressing & Seasoning Mix

Tuscan Garden Italian Salad Dressing and Seasoning Mix is a Regular Buy. That means you can find it in stores all the time. The 7-ounce mix packet is 55 cents when we most recently bought it in 2025. That’s up from 45 cents when we first wrote about it in 2020.

Ingredients are sea salt, sugar, garlic, onion, spices including parsley, red bell pepper, citric acid, xanthan gum, maltodextrin, carrots, and natural flavor.

A half-teaspoon serving has 5 calories, no fat, 320 mg of sodium (14% DV), 1 gram of total carbohydrates (0% DV), no dietary fiber, 1 gram of total sugars, 1 gram of added sugars (0% DV), and no protein.

It’s important to know that you’ll need three additional ingredients if you want to make salad dressing:

  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 3 Tbsp water
  • 1/2 cup oil (i.e. vegetable, canola, olive, etc.)

To make the dressing, first you need to find a container with a tight-fitting lid, because you’re going to be shaking this thing. (If in doubt, test the container with regular water before you attempt to make this mix. I didn’t, and my first attempt created something of a mess.) You add the Italian mix, the vinegar, and the water, and then cover and shake vigorously until everything is combined.

Next, you add the oil to the mix, then cover and shake again until well blended.

And you’re done.

The package says that, to maintain freshness, you can refrigerate the dressing for up to four weeks. It does note that the contents will separate when refrigerated, so to reuse you should let the dressing stand at room temperature for 1 hour and then shake before using. In that sense, it’s maybe a little more fussy than traditional Italian dressing.

So how does it taste?

I really liked it. It was both a little bitter and a little sweet, like the Italian dressing I get from a restaurant. I liked it a lot more than the stuff from a bottle. It didn’t make a lot, unfortunately (maybe 1 cup total) so this isn’t the most efficient option if you like Italian dressing often, but it was good.

The envelope also has a recipe for “hearty Italian potatoes.” On a large baking sheet (with sides), toss together 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of red potatoes cut into bite-sized pieces, 3 tablespoons of oil, and one packet of dressing and seasoning mix. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until lightly browned.

While we haven’t tried that particular potato recipe, we used this packet in a recipe for Zesty Italian Chicken and Veggies, a sheet pan meal, and it turned out delicious.

The Verdict:

This Italian mix is a solid option for those who like Italian dressing. It’s not too hard to make, and it has a good taste and consistency. It’s also good for seasoning potatoes, veggies, or whatever else you want to add a pop of flavor to.

  1. Thanks,Joshua. One of my favorite things to do with this or the ranch dressing mix is to make “shake n’ bake potatoes. Add the entire envelope of mix to a cup of flour in a sturdy 1 gal. plastic bag and mix. Cut up 3 peeled russet potatoes into 1″ pieces, and add to flour mixture. Shake them up and add to a 9×13” pan to which 2 tblsp. cooking oil has been added. Bake at 400 deg. F for 45 min to 1 hr. Stir halfway. When potatoes pierce easily, they’re done.
