All-Aldi Biscuits and Homemade Sausage Gravy Recipe
Biscuits and gravy are a favorite tradition in our house. We make them every Christmas morning, and they’re also a staple for other celebrations throughout the year. They’re a reliable breakfast food — they pair great with eggs — but they can also shake things up at other meals.
We’ve been using this recipe for many years. It was handed down through the family. It’s so popular in our house that we rarely order sausage gravy and biscuits at restaurants anymore, as we think this is far superior. We also think it’s far better than your garden variety packet or canned gravy. The best part is, it can be made with just a few ingredients in around 30 minutes. You can find everything you need at Aldi.
With that, let’s get cooking.
What You’ll Need:
- 1 roll of Appleton Farms Premium Pork Sausage
- 1/2 cup of Baker’s Corner All Purpose Flour
- 4 cups of Friendly Farms Whole Milk (you can also substitute 2% milk)
- salt and pepper to taste (optional)
- 2 cans of Bake House Creations Jumbo Buttermilk Biscuits
Making the Biscuits:
- Cook the biscuits according to the package directions. To make Bake House Creations Jumbo Flaky Biscuits from Aldi, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and then bake the biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet for 13-16 minutes. We check the biscuits at 13 minutes and typically pull them from the oven at 13 or 14 minutes. We also let them sit for a few minutes on the sheet afterward as it makes them easier to remove.
Making the Sausage Gravy:
- Remove the pork sausage from the roll. In a large skillet or saucepan, brown the sausage over medium heat. Drain the grease.
- In a separate bowl, add the 1/2 cup of flour and stir in the 4 cups of milk with a whisk or spoon until the flour is dissolved in the milk.
- Add the milk and flour mix to the sausage. Cover the skillet or saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally to keep the gravy from burning at the bottom.
- Allow the gravy to heat until it begins to thicken and bubble. In our experience, it takes roughly 10-15 minutes.
Cook’s Notes:
- If you want a thicker, more sausage-heavy gravy you can use 1/4 cup of flour and 2 cups of milk.
- We don’t typically use salt or pepper in our gravy as we think the sausage adds plenty of flavor, but you can add some to taste if desired.
- How many cans of biscuits you’ll use depends on how much gravy you like with your biscuits. Our family uses about 1 1/2 cans of the jumbo biscuits before we run out of gravy, but your mileage may vary.
- If you prefer made-from-scratch biscuits, you can craft your own. You can also make drop biscuits using Baker’s Corner All-Purpose Baking Mix.
Try it out! And if you do, be sure to let us know about it in the comments.

You don’t brown the flour first?!? Blasphemy!!! Lol. Love your site.
It’s an old family recipe that we never questioned, but now we’re going to have to try browning the flour the next time we make this. Thanks for the suggestion.
