EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated for December of 2023.

If you’re looking to add resistance training or weight training to your fitness regimen this year, Aldi sells several options. The grocer has recently rotated kettle bells, adjustable dumbbells, a workout bench, and other exercise gear onto the shelves in its middle aisle.

One exercise item that I’ve seen annually at Aldi for the last few years is a slam ball. A slam ball “allows you to provide resistance and added weight while you perform dynamic movements.” It’s similar to a medicine ball, and it features a heavy-duty outer rubber shell that is filled with sand. You can do various lifting, lunging, jumping, squatting, and throwing movements with it, along with modified burpees and pushups. If you need ideas, there are tons of videos on the internet.

The Aldi slam ball is sold in 15-pound or 20-pound weights. It’s offered under the Crane brand. Crane is not a company. Instead, Aldi uses the Crane private label for various exercise and fitness products. Other Crane products I’ve seen at Aldi include crosstrainers, a booty shaping system, and a kickboxing trainer.

What We Know:

Crane 15- or 20-Pound Slam Ball

The January 2023 slam ball.

The Crane 15- or 20-Pound Slam Ball (Product Code: 819514 in January of 2023; Product Code: 828664 in December of 2023) cost $9.99 in December of 2023. That’s half of what it cost in January of 2023, when it sold for $19.99. Aldi also sold the slam balls for $19.99 in 2022 and 2021. I didn’t find many slam balls going for less on Amazon, so the Aldi slam ball appears to be a good deal.

This is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone until Aldi decides to bring them back, whenever that might be. If an item is not in stock at your local store, you can’t order it online from Aldi.

Here’s more information about the slam ball, according to Aldi:

  • Choose a 15-Lb. or 20-Lb. weight
  • Versatile for fitness and throwing exercises
  • Use to strengthen the whole body
  • Improve muscle mass, cardiovascular endurance, and hand-eye coordination
  • No-bounce design
  • Features a durable, textured surface
  • Sand-filled
  • Exercise chart included

The January 2023 slam balls had a diameter of approximately 9 inches, but Aldi has not stated what the size of the December 2023 slam balls is.

The slam balls don’t appear to come with any kind of warranty.

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t tried these slam balls, so we don’t know how well they work or how durable they are. We write open threads so readers can talk about their experiences with Aldi products.
