Girl Scout Dupe Benton’s Lemon Shortbread Cookies Return to Aldi
This post is an open thread.
Aldi is never one to shy away from imitating popular name brands. Whether it’s Loungefly mini backpacks, King’s Hawaiian Rolls, your favorite Starbucks frappe, or a Le Creuset Cast Iron Bread Oven, Aldi loves to stock its limited-buy middle aisle shelves with less expensive dupes of pricier brands.
One area where Aldi stands out in terms of copycatting is cookies. Specifically, knockoff Girl Scout cookies. The discount grocery store sells peanut butter fudge cookies year round that are dead ringers for Girl Scout Tagalongs. Aldi also sells caramel coconut fudge cookies year round that are practically indistinguishable from Girl Scout Samoas. (Aldi used to sell Thin Mint knockoffs as well, but they unexpectedly discontinued those a few years ago.)
Sometimes I’ll also see people on Aldi social media fan pages singing the praises of lemon cookies that are dupes of Girl Scout Lemonades. The catch is that Aldi doesn’t seem to sell the lemon cookies year round like they do with other Girl Scout knockoffs, at least not at my local stores. However, I spotted the Lemonades imitations in a recent Aldi weekly ad.
Benton’s Lemon Shortbread Cookies are an Aldi Find, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone until whenever Aldi might decide to bring them back, if Aldi decides to bring them back. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not currently in stock at your local store.
These are scheduled to arrive in Aldi stores the week of July 3, 2024.
Benton’s Lemon Shortbread Cookies cost $1.89 for an 8.5-ounce package at the time of writing. That comes out to about 22 cents per ounce.
The package describes these as “lemon shortbread cookies covered with a tart icing.” These are certified kosher. They are naturally and artificially flavored.
A two-cookie serving has 150 calories, 7 grams of total fat (9% DV), 4.5 grams of saturated fat (23% DV), 70 mg of sodium 3% DV), 20 grams of total carbohydrates (7% DV), no dietary fiber, 9 grams of total sugars, 9 grams of added sugars (18% DV), and 1 gram of protein.
If you’re looking out for allergens, these contain soy and wheat. They may contain milk, peanuts, and coconut.
These are sold under the Benton’s brand, which is not a company. Instead, it’s the name Aldi puts on its house brand cookies to give them a uniform appearance when they may all be sourced from various suppliers.
One thing is certain, these cookies won’t stick around at Aldi. So if you’re a fan, be sure to stock up while you can.
