Mama Cozzi’s Deep Dish Pizza Singles
I always keep a few frozen pizzas in my deep freezer. They’re good for a quick and easy lunch or for dinner served alongside a salad. Pizza is also one of the most common foods I see in the limited-buy freezer aisle at Aldi. The grocer is continually rotating various types of pizzas with all kinds of toppings through its freezer section.
Sometimes you might want a small, single-serving pizza. Aldi sells some Regular Buy mini crusts with sauce packets that can be fun when you want a semi-DIY tiny pizza. The grocer also sells Regular Buy naan that is excellent when you top it with Aldi pizza sauce, mozzarella, and whatever other toppings you want.
This week, Aldi upped its mini pizza game and is selling deep dish pizza singles in the freezer section. These are topped with mozzarella cheese and pepperoni made with pork, chicken, and beef.
Mama Cozzi’s Deep Dish Pizza Singles are an Aldi Find, so they’re only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not currently in stock at your local store.
We buy Aldi products with our own funds to review, and I paid $5.99 for a 22.4-ounce box containing four individual pizzas. That comes out to about 27 cents per ounce, or about $1.50 per serving.
If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains wheat, soy, and milk.
This has a lot of fat, saturated fat, sodium, and carbs. It also has a lengthy ingredients list with some processed ingredients.
One pizza — or one serving — has 430 calories, 20 grams of total fat (26% DV), 9 grams of saturated fat (45% DV), 940 mg of sodium (41% DV), 47 grams of total carbohydrates (17% DV), 2 grams of dietary fiber (7% DV), 11 grams of total sugars, 2 grams of added sugars (4% DV), and 15 grams of protein.
The box has directions for baking these pizzas in a conventional oven (recommended) or in a microwave.
To bake, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Place the oven rack in the center position. Remove the pizza from the clear plastic wrap. When the oven is preheated, place the frozen pizza on a cookie sheet on the center rack. Bake for 22-24 minutes or until the cheese is melted and lightly browned.
To microwave, remove the pizza from the carton and remove the plastic overwrap. Microwave only one frozen pizza at a time. Place the pizza on a microwave-safe plate. Cook on high (100% power) for 2 minutes and 30 seconds to 3 minutes and 30 seconds. The pizza is ready when the cheese is completely melted. Carefully remove the pizza from the microwave and let cool for 1 minute before serving.
I baked one of these pizzas in my oven for lunch, and I loved how it turned out. The crust is crispy on the edges with a nice chewy consistency on the inside, and the crust is flavorful. The pizza has plenty of sauce and cheese, and the chopped pepperoni adds good flavor.
One of my kids baked one of the pizzas later for dinner and happily ate it. Then, my husband cooked one in our Aldi countertop pizza grill, cooking it at 425 degrees for about 22-23 minutes, and he was impressed by how good it was. The crust came out the perfect mix of crispy and chewy.
We liked these so much that I picked up a couple more boxes on my next Aldi shopping trip. I’d love to see these become an everyday product at Aldi.
The Verdict:
Mama Cozzi’s Deep Dish Pizza Singles are sold frozen, and each box contains four individually wrapped single-serving pizzas. These are great when you want pizza for one.
They bake in the oven, but you can also microwave one in just a few minutes if you’re pressed for time. We also really like these cooked in the Aldi countertop pizza grill.
The pizzas are topped with a good amount of sauce, cheese, and chopped pepperoni, and we love how they taste. We’ll be going back to Aldi for more of these.
I purchased a box of these this week ($5.99) to keep in the freezer for my pizza craving days. They are remarkably similar to Red Baron individual deep dish pizzas. In other words, they’re pretty darn good and tasty! Considering that other company vends a two-pack for $5.49, this is an excellent price!
I have tried these mini pizzas & they are very good also very similar to Red Baron. Now what I would like is if Mama Cozi could make a breakfast pizza like Red Baron did. Been missing since covid. I would buy a bunch of these.
