I’m always looking for snacks that can be quickly tossed into a lunch bag and eaten on the go. With multiple people in my household packing lunches for school and work, we go through a lot of sandwich fixings, granola bars, fiber bars, applesauce pouches, peanuts, fruit cups, fruit and grain cereal bars, fresh apples, and more each week. Some are admittedly healthier than others.
I recently stumbled upon something new-to-us at Aldi: pastry crisps. These consist of a crispy outer shell drizzled with icing and filled with either fruit or chocolate. They fall more into the dessert category, but they’re fun to tuck into a lunch bag or to simply enjoy as a snack at home.
Millville Pastry Crisps cost $1.99 for a 4.4-ounce box at the time of publication. They come in three varieties: strawberry, blueberry, and “chocolatey bliss.” They’re a product of the Netherlands.
These are a Regular Buy, so you should be able to find them at Aldi any time of year.
If you’re looking out for allergens, all flavors contain wheat, milk, egg, and soy. They all may also contain almond, hazelnut, coconut, and peanut.
The main ingredient in all of the flavors is enriched wheat flour. These also contain some processed ingredients such as glucose syrup, soy lecithin, natural flavoring, and maltodextrin, but that’s not surprising with a grab-and-go snack like this.
Each box contains five single-pouch servings, and each pouch contains two crisps. One serving has 100 calories, 2 grams of total fat (3% DV), 0.5-1 grams of saturated fat (3-5% DV), 60-80 mg of sodium (3% DV), 19 grams of total carbohydrates (7% DV), 7-8 grams of total sugars, and 7-8 grams of added sugars (14-16% DV).
My family likes these, and they go quickly in my house. They feature a light-colored cracker-like crunchy pastry bar with a hollow center that has gooey fruit filling or chocolate filling. The top of the pastry also has a white or chocolate drizzle.
The crispy pastry bar is lightly sweet, and the icing and filling add to the sweet flavor. The fillings are as expected, with good strawberry, blueberry, or chocolate flavor. Most of my family is probably a little more partial to the fruit flavors, but the chocolate is good, too.
With 7 to 8 grams of added sugars per serving, these are not something I’d recommend eating all the time, but they’re a fun treat to enjoy sometimes, especially if you need something you can eat on the go.
The Verdict:
Millville Pastry Crisps feature a thin cracker-like bar filled with strawberry, blueberry, or chocolate and lightly drizzled with icing. These are crispy, lightly sweetened, and popular in our house. If you’re looking for a sweet snack, these are worth trying.
