Aldi has been offering some unique twists on the traditional ice cream sandwich this summer. Several weeks ago, I picked up some stroopwafel ice cream sandwiches based on the popular Dutch treat. This week, Aldi decided to stock ice cream sandwiches with a French air when they sold macaron ice cream sandwiches.
My entire family loves macarons. When given their choice of desserts at the grocery store, there’s a chance they will settle on a box of macarons. So of course we had to try the macaron ice cream sandwiches from Aldi.
If you’re unfamiliar with macarons, they’re a sweet confection that consists of a meringue-based sandwich cookie filled with ganache, buttercream, or jam … or, in this case, vanilla ice cream. Each cookie piece is called a shell, and they’re typically made with almond flour and have a distinct chewy texture. If you want to try traditional macarons, you can buy them year round at either Aldi or Trader Joe’s.
Sundae Shoppe Macaron Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwiches cost $4.95 for a 13.52-ounce box at the time of publication. Each box contains four 3.38-ounce ice cream sandwiches. That comes out to about $1.24 per sandwich.
These are a product of Canada. The box describes them as “rich creamy vanilla ice cream between two macarons made with real almond flour.” Naturally, these should be kept frozen.
These are an Aldi Find, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone unless Aldi decides to bring them back at some point. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not in stock at your local store.

If you’re looking out for allergens, these contain egg, milk, and almonds. They may contain wheat and soy.
These are not great for you, but they’re a dessert, so that’s no surprise. One ice cream sandwich has 110 calories, 4.5 grams of total fat (6% DV), 1.5 grams of saturated fat (8% DV), 80 mg of sodium (3% DV), 16 grams of total carbohydrates (6% DV), 13 grams of total sugars, 11 grams of added sugars (22% DV), and 3 grams of protein.
These macaron ice cream sandwiches taste great. The vanilla ice cream is creamy and rich, while the macarons are slightly crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside like I expect macarons to be. These are spot on. I love macarons, and these are an authentic-tasting mashup of macarons and an ice cream sandwich.
These ice cream sandwiches aren’t very large, but they’re big enough that you feel like you’re getting a nice, indulgent treat. And at 110 calories per serving, it could be worse.
The Verdict:
Sundae Shoppe Macaron Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwiches are the perfect dessert for macaron fans. These feature chewy macarons with a sweet vanilla ice cream filling — a perfect mashup of two fabulous treats. Highly recommended.
