Range Master 65 Inch Gas Grill Cover

I’ve owned a few grills over the years. One of my first grills — from a brand that I will not name — was a 3-burner model that was heavy on looks and features but light on build quality. It rusted out after just a few years. My second grill was lighter on features, and secondhand to boot, but it was a Weber that lasted for well over a decade.

I currently own both an Aldi kettle charcoal grill and a new 3-burner Weber, and while they’re on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of price and projected life span, I’ve still done my level best to maximize their longevity by keeping them protected from the elements. For me, a grill cover is a no-brainer, and it’s one of the first things I purchase when I buy a grill.

I’ve had a range of experiences when it comes to covers. Some last for years, while others wear out in months. Brands do seem to matter with covers, but they’re not always a perfect predictor: I’ve paid a lot for respected covers that tear and crack under outdoor wear sooner than I would have hoped. Still, I’ve had better luck with respected brands than knockoffs when it comes to getting life out of a cover … and any cover eventually wears out.

Aldi’s Range Master brand isn’t to be confused with a highbrow grilling operation. It’s the house brand of a grocery store. Nevertheless, I took note when, this spring, Aldi sold a large grill cover in its middle aisle. After noting the price, I decided to take a flyer on it.

Range Master Gas Grill Cover

The Range Master 65 Inch Gas Grill Cover (Product Code: 831901) is an Aldi Find. That means it’s only in stores for a short time, and once it’s gone, it’s gone, at least until Aldi brings it back next year. Since Aldi often doesn’t ship products online, if you can’t find this in stores, you’re out of luck.

At the time of this post, Aldi sold the cover for $9.99. I’m not sure I’ve personally seen a cover for that cheap in recent years, much less at that size. It’s certainly a lot less than anything I can find on Amazon.

According to the box, it’s made in China. There is no other indication of who manufactured the cover (keep in mind Range Master is an Aldi brand, not a company) and there is no after-sales support or warranty.

According to Aldi, features include:

  • Fits most 4-5 burner gas grills.
  • Up to 65 inches wide
  • Protects grills from dust, dirt, rain, pollen, and snow
  • Includes side handles for easy use
  • Two Velcro straps tighten around the grill, protecting even on windy days
  • Water and UV ray resistant
  • Made from a robust and resilient material

It’s not clear exactly what the “robust and resilient material” is, but it has a feel like most other grill covers I’ve handled.

There’s no manual or anything of that nature, just a box with a grill cover. The side of the box does offer the usual warnings regarding 1) not leaving children unattended with the cover, as it is a suffocation hazard, and 2) making sure the grill has cooled down completely before putting the cover on.

I was able to put the cover on my grill without trouble. It had a little chemical smell straight out of the box, but that dissipated with time. It appeared true to size, fitting over my 58-inch 3-burner grill with room to spare.

Grill, covered.

The Velcro was engineered in a way that it cinched down over the lower edges well.

The handles, meanwhile, provided ease of use when straightening the cover and getting it off.

The Verdict:

I asked for a 65-inch grill cover, and I got a 65-inch grill cover. It fit over my 58-inch with plenty of extra room, and it was easy to put on, adjust, and remove. The big question is how long this grill will last — on that, only time will tell, and there is no warranty — but certainly for this price it might be worth taking a hard look anyway.

  1. A great grill cover, — great price! Just replaced my Aldi grill cover after it spent 3 years in the Houston TX climate. Still in good shape, but the color was too faded for my liking.
