Simply Nature PB & J Bites

EDITOR’S NOTE: Since we first wrote about these, they seem to alternate between being a limited-time Aldi Find and a Seasonal Item that is stocked for a few months at a time but not year round. Currently, they appear to be a limited-time Aldi Find. 

I have a child who loves peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, never tiring of them. So when a recent Aldi ad indicated the grocer would be selling a peanut butter and jelly snack for a limited time, I made sure to keep an eye out during my weekly Aldi run. I wasn’t disappointed.

Simply Nature PB & J Bites cost $4.49 for a package of six 1-oz. bags when we first wrote about them in 2020. That came out to about 75 cents per serving.

These were originally an Aldi Find (Special Buy), which meant they were only in stores for a short time. That is also what they currently appear to be as of July of 2024 as well. Aldi has experimented with how often they stock these, though. In January of 2023, I noticed they were being stocked as a Seasonal Item in my local stores. Seasonal Items stick around for longer than Aldi Finds, but not year round. Then, at some point, Aldi made these Aldi Finds once again.

They’re described as a “strawberry filled peanut butter snack” and are non-GMO, kosher, and gluten free.

One 1-oz. bag contains 110 calories, 3.5 grams of total fat (4% DV), 1 gram of saturated fat (5% DV), 170 mg of sodium (7% DV), 18 grams of total carbohydrates (7% DV), 1 gram of dietary fiber (4% DV), 8 grams of total sugars, 7 grams of added sugars (14% DV), and 3 grams of protein.

Ingredients are: strawberry filling (sugar, glycerin, invert sugar, strawberries, corn starch, salt, citric acid, vegetable juice [for color], and natural flavor), brown rice meal, peanut butter (dry roasted peanuts), soy flour, peanut flour, cane sugar, refined coconut oil, sea salt, rice bran extract, and oat fiber.

If you’re watching out for allergens, these contain peanut, soy, and tree nut (coconut). They may contain other tree nuts and milk.

These snacks are unique, with the crunchiness of a cracker but with a strawberry jelly filling. The outer shell is crisp and airy, almost like cereal, with a good peanut butter flavor. The filling is gooey with a sweetness that complements the somewhat salty peanut butter shell.

My peanut butter and jelly sandwich-lover tried these and immediately declared, “Yummy!” They really do taste like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

These aren’t the cheapest snack out there, and there is a lot of plastic bag packaging for the amount of snacks that are actually in all that packaging. The trade off is that — while they’re not really a health food — they’re probably slightly better for you than traditional potato chips or cookies.

The Verdict:

Simply Nature PB & J Bites are crispy and crunchy, with a satisfying gooey strawberry filling. If you like peanut butter and jelly, you’ll probably like these. They are a lunchbox favorite in our house.
