Sundae Shoppe Ice Cream Sandwiches

Ice cream is always a favorite in our house, and you can’t go wrong with Aldi’s ice cream sandwiches.

We had these delivered via Instacart when we wanted to see what all the excitement was about regarding home grocery delivery. I also wanted to see how well frozen dairy products remained frozen during the Instacart delivery experience. The ice cream sandwiches arrived at my house in good condition, and I enjoyed one within a few minutes of unpacking my groceries.

Sundae Shoppe Ice Cream Sandwiches

Sundae Shoppe Ice Cream Sandwiches come in a box of 12 and consist of “vanilla flavored reduced fat ice cream layered between two chocolate flavored wafers.”

One ice cream sandwich has 140 calories, 2 grams of saturated fat, 100 mg of sodium, and 12 grams of sugars.

The box states artificial flavor is added. Also, the ice cream fat is reduced 30% from regular ice cream, from 10 grams to 7 grams per 100 grams, but this is not a reduced fat food. The ice cream sandwiches contain no high fructose corn syrup.

As with any ice cream sandwiches like this, this is a processed food with a lot of ingredients. Ice cream ingredients are: milk, skim milk, cream, sugar, corn syrup, whey, buttermilk, and 1% or less of natural flavors, mono and diglycerides, carob bean gum, cellulose gum, carrageenan, vitamin A palmitate, and annatto extract for color. Wafer ingredients are: wheat flour, sugar, caramel color, dextrose, palm oil, corn flour, and 2% or less of corn syrup, cocoa processed with alkali, food starch-modified salt, soy lecithin, mono and diglycerides, and baking soda.

The ice cream sandwiches contain milk, soy, and wheat.

My family enjoys Aldi’s ice cream sandwiches, and they taste similar to most ice cream sandwiches from traditional grocery stores. Name-brand ice cream sandwiches like Blue Bunny may taste slightly more creamy compared to the Aldi ice cream sandwiches, but the difference is not always big enough to motivate us to spend more money on the name-brand treats.

My husband noted that the paper wrappers on the Aldi ice cream sandwiches seem a little harder to peel off than the wrappers on more expensive ice cream sandwiches. This also is not a big enough problem to make us switch to pricier brands.

The Verdict:

Aldi’s Regular Buy Sundae Shoppe Ice Cream Sandwiches are your typical frozen novelty treat. More expensive brands may taste a little more creamy, but the Aldi ice cream sandwiches are pretty good and easier on your wallet.
