Trader Joe’s Buffalo Style Chicken Wrap
One of my favorite aisles at Trader Joe’s, which is a distant cousin to Aldi, would have to be the refrigerator case. This is where I can pick up some of the best lobster bisque and clam chowder I’ve ever tasted, along with the iconic Unexpected Cheddar.
The refrigerator case at TJ’s also is a great place to pick up grab-and-go kinds of meals, including all kinds of wraps, sandwiches, and salads. These are perfect if you need lunch for one that doesn’t require any kind of heating or cooking.
When my oldest daughter and I recently had the house to ourselves while the rest of the family was on a brief camping trip, we dropped into Trader Joe’s to see what kinds of fun things we could find. The refrigerator aisle didn’t disappoint. My daughter picked out a buffalo style chicken wrap that looked intriguing. That combination of mildly spicy chicken with a chewy wrap sounded like a great meal to share.
The package says this features “white chicken meat, buffalo style sauce & diced celery wrapped in a flour tomato tortilla with blue cheese dressing.”
We are not fans of blue cheese dressing, so we were glad the dressing comes packaged on the side in a pouch, making it easy to omit it.
The Trader Joe’s Buffalo Style Chicken Wrap cost $5.49 for a 10-ounce package at the time of writing. That’s about 50 cents per ounce.
This is perishable and is sold in the refrigerator case at Trader Joe’s. It had a best-by sticker on it dated just a day after we purchased it, so you’ll want to serve this pretty soon after buying it.
If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains milk, egg, soy, and wheat.
This has a lot of total fat, saturated fat, sodium, and carbs. Serving it without dressing helps reduce some of those numbers, but not by as much as you might hope.
One container makes one serving. One serving with the included blue cheese sauce will net you 630 calories, 29 grams of total fat (37% DV), 8 grams of saturated fat (40% DV), 1,630 mg of sodium (71% DV), 59 grams of total carbohydrates (21% DV), 4 grams of dietary fiber (14% DV), 3 grams of total sugars, less than 1 gram of added sugars (2% DV), and 30 grams of protein.
If you eat the wrap alone without the packet of blue cheese dressing, you’ll get 510 calories, 17 grams of total fat (22% DV), 6 grams of saturated fat (30% DV), 1,400 mg of sodium (61% DV), 58 grams of total carbohydrates (21% DV), 4 grams of dietary fiber (14% DV), 2 grams of total sugars, less than 1 gram of added sugars (1% DV), and 28 grams of protein.
This is a decent wrap, if not super memorable. It’s simple: just spiced diced chicken and diced celery inside a wrap. The package says this has buffalo style sauce, but it’s not really saucy. It’s more that the chicken is just coated in spicy seasoning. The package calls the tortilla a flour tomato tortilla, but it tastes pretty much like a regular flour tortilla.
We dipped our wrap in some ranch dressing we had in our fridge, because we didn’t want the included blue cheese dressing and the wrap is kind of plain on its own. We ended up throwing away the blue cheese dressing packet.
This is a decent wrap, and you might like it better if you like blue cheese. It’s on the mild spicy side and fits the bill if you need a grab-and-go meal.
The Verdict:
The Trader Joe’s Buffalo Style Chicken Wrap is mildly spicy and features a flour tomato tortilla filled with buffalo chicken and celery. It comes with a packet of blue cheese dressing on the side. It’s not the most elaborate wrap at TJ’s, but it’s fine. You’ll find this in the refrigerated aisle at TJ’s among the other wraps, sandwiches, salads, and dips.
