Trader Joe’s Green Tea

Green tea is a daily thing in my household. It’s linked to health benefits that include a reduced risk of cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. It may also reduce inflammation, aid weight loss, and lower blood sugar.

My husband and I each drink one cup of green tea a day. You can find green tea in just about any grocery store, including Aldi.

Also, Trader Joe’s, which is a cousin to Aldi, sells several types of green tea. I’ve found traditional green tea there, as well as organic options. TJ’s also even sells a candy cane green tea during the holiday season.

Here, I’m taking a look at the standard large box of green tea Trader Joe’s sells.

Trader Joe’s Green Tea cost $2.99 for a 3.4-ounce box of 48 tea bags in 2026. That comes out to about 6 cents per tea bag. We buy Trader Joe’s products to review using our own money.

For comparison, a box of 40 bags of Walmart-brand Great Value green tea was $2.78, or around 7 cents per tea bag. That puts the Trader Joe’s green tea on par or better with store brands in terms of price.

Each tea bag is packed in a paper wrapper.

The box is sold packaged in an outer layer of plastic wrap. Once you remove that and open the box, the tea bags inside are each individually packed in paper wrappers.

You can enjoy this green tea hot or iced.

For hot tea, bring cold water to a rolling boil. Let the water cool for 1 minute after boiling. Pour water over one tea bag and steep for 1-2 minutes. Remove the tea bag. Add sweetener if desired.

For iced tea, bring a quart of cold water to a rolling boil. Let the water cool for 1 minute after boiling. Pour 4 cups of water over three to five tea bags and steep for 1-2 minutes. Remove the tea bags and our the tea over ice-filled glasses. Add sweetener if desired.

Our Thoughts:

This tea brews up nicely, and it tastes as good as any green tea we’ve tried. If you want a large, economical box of green tea, this will do the job. The fact that the tea bags are packed in paper rather than plastic is a nice plus.

The Verdict:

Trader Joe’s Green Tea is one of several green tea offerings at Aldi’s cousin. You get plenty of tea in this box (48 bags), and it tastes as expected. At the time when we tried it, it was slightly cheaper than Walmart brand green tea, so we consider this to be a good deal.

  1. Tetley green tea has 70ish tea bags and is usually between 3-4 dollars, plus tastes mellow and not as grassy as other green teas. That should also be considered here for those who don’t know!
