Pick Up Deutsche Küche Wafer Rolls During Aldi German Week

This post is an open thread

EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated for 2025.

Have you ever noticed how Aldi stocks a lot of German foods at certain times of the year? The reason why is because Aldi originated in Germany.

It began in 1913 when Anna Albrecht opened a small grocery store in the suburbs of Essen, Germany. Following World War II, Anna’s sons, Theo and Karl, took over managing the store, and they named it Albrecht KG. They expanded and opened additional locations.

By the 1960s, Theo and Karl couldn’t agree about whether to sell tobacco products, so they decided to create two companies under the Aldi (short for Albrecht Diskont) name: Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd. Aldi Süd operates Aldi stores in southern Germany, the U.S., U.K., and Australia. Aldi Nord operates Aldi stores in northern Germany and other parts of Europe, as well as owning Trader Joe’s, which operates independently.

With that said, Aldi US likes to give a nod to its German heritage twice a year, or sometimes more frequently, by selling products such as red cabbage, warm potato salad, and doppel keks under its Deutsche Küche brand. Deutsche Küche means “German cuisine.” This brand is not a separate company but is the Aldi private label for its German or German-inspired foods.

One product that frequently shows up during German week at Aldi is wafer rolls. These consist of sweet, crispy wafer cookies that have been shaped into rolls, with one end dipped in either milk chocolate or dark chocolate.

What We Know:

Deutsche Küche Wafer Rolls
On the shelves at Aldi.

Deutsche Küche Wafer Rolls are an Aldi Find, so they’re only in stores for a short time. Each store receives one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone until the next German week. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not currently in stock at your local store.

These cost $2.99 for a 4.41-once package in December of 2025. That’s up from $2.79 for a 4.41-ounce package in December of 2024. Each package contains about 4.5 four-wafer servings, which in 2025 comes out to about 66 cents per serving.

These are a product of Germany. They contain Rainforest Alliance certified cocoa.

What We Don’t Know:

While we have tried many, many German products at Aldi, we haven’t yet gotten around to sampling these. That’s due in part to personal health goals. We may eventually buy these and update this post with our full review. In the meantime, we’ve written this open thread to give readers a landing spot to talk about these wafer rolls.

  1. I wish these cookies were in the store all the time. Or maybe not, as I have no control when these are around. They are crunchy and flaky with the right amount of dark chocolate on one end. So good!

    1. I have no self control either. The good news is that Aldi tends to sell these at least twice a year, and you can stock up when you see them!
