Whole & Simple Honey Sesame Salmon Rice Bowl
EDITOR’S NOTE: We reviewed this in 2025. Aldi sold the same salmon rice bowl again in February of 2026.
Whenever I see a new single-serving meal bowl from the Whole & Simple product line at Aldi, I make a point to try it. This Aldi house brand features meals that are less processed, which is not something we typically associate with microwavable TV-style dinners.
Most recently, I had an excellent Baja fish taco rice bowl from the Whole & Simple line.
I also decided to try another seafood-based meal: a honey sesame salmon rice bowl. The package states this features Atlantic salmon, red bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, edamame, and rice in an Asian honey sesame sauce.
The Whole & Simple Honey Sesame Salmon Rice Bowl is an Aldi Find. That means it’s in stores for a short time only. Each store should get one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone unless Aldi decides to bring it back. Aldi does not offer online ordering if this is out of stock at your local store.
We bought this with our own funds and paid $4.79 for a 9.6-ounce package in 2025. Aldi sold it again for the same price in February of 2026.

If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains fish (salmon), soy, and sesame. The box states this is made with gluten-free ingredients and ethically sourced salmon.
The full ingredients list is fairly short: cooked long grain rice, Atlantic salmon (color added), broccoli, red bell peppers, water, carrots, edamame, sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, maltodextrin, salt, soy sauce (soybeans, salt), sesame seeds, honey, garlic, rice vinegar, natural flavors, and toasted sesame oil.
One serving (272 grams) has 350 calories, 10 grams of total fat (13% DV), 1 gram of saturated fat (5% DV), 680 mg of sodium (30% DV), 52 grams of total carbohydrates (19% DV), 2 grams of dietary fiber (7% DV), 14 grams of total sugars, 12 grams of added sugars (24% DV), and 15 grams of protein.
This doesn’t have a great carbs-to-fiber ratio, at 26:1. It also has its share of sodium and added sugar.
The box has directions for microwaving this from frozen. Remove the tray from the box and cut a 1-inch slit in the film. Microwave on high for 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Let stand for 1 minute. Peel back the film, stir well, and serve.

I thought this was underwhelming. It’s not bad, but it’s plain, like it’s not much more than cooked veggies, rice, and salmon chunks without much seasoning. The box says this has a honey sesame sauce, but I didn’t taste or see much sauce, if any. For all the added sugar this contains, it doesn’t taste that sweet. Likewise, this has quite a bit of sodium for as plain as it tastes.
I added some salt and pepper to help give it more flavor, but it still wasn’t doing it for me. I ended up drizzling a little Aldi teriyaki sauce over it, which greatly improved the flavor.
The Verdict:
The Whole & Simple Honey Sesame Salmon Rice Bowl features salmon with various veggies and rice. It claims it has an Asian honey sesame sauce, but we didn’t see or taste the sauce. This has a fair amount of sodium and added sugar but tastes pretty plain. We ultimately added some teriyaki sauce to give it more flavor. We like a lot of the meals in the Whole & Simple product line, but this isn’t one we’ll be buying again.

Might be good, but I tend not to pay meat prices for starch.
Full of additives.
It does have maltodextrin and natural flavors, and sugar, but the rest of the ingredients list looks decent to us. Much better than most frozen dinners.
And cornstarch. And none of the vegetables are non-gmo or organic (I guess that’s wildly optimistic). But you are correct – it’s better than most. The sad state of the American diet.
I thought it was great. Would like to see it back!
How do we get Aldi to bring this one back?
