Every winter, my family deals with dry skin, especially on our hands. We also deal with dry noses and throats. Some friends gifted us a small humidifier several years ago, and I pull it out most years and run it around the house.

This year, I decided to add to our humidifier collection. When I saw several different humidifiers in the weekly Aldi ad, I debated which one to get. I was intrigued by a rechargeable humidifier, but it uses filters, which is something I wanted to avoid mainly because of the potential hassle of finding and purchasing replacement filters.

Ultimately, I settled on the Ambiano LED Ultrasonic Humidifier, which does not use filters.

Look closely and you might spot the typo in the fine print on the front of the box.

The Ambiano LED Ultrasonic Humidifier (Product Code: 830419) is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after it’s sold out, you can’t get it unless Aldi brings it back later. You can’t order Aldi products online if they’re not in stock at your local store.

The Ambiano LED Ultrasonic Humidifier cost $14.99 in January of 2024. That’s cheaper than a lot of other humidifiers on Amazon, although your price point may vary depending on the size of humidifier you want.

Interestingly, this Ambiano humidifier looks exactly like an AIRCARE humidifier that sold for the same price of $14.99 on Amazon at the time of writing. The AIRCARE model has a 4/5 star rating on Amazon and has some slight differences, including in size and water tank capacity.

Aldi has been selling the ultrasonic LED humidifier for several years. This year’s $14.99 price tag is the cheapest I’ve ever seen Aldi sell this humidifier for. From 2020 through 2023, it has cost either $16.99 or $17.99.

This humidifier used to be under the grocer’s Easy Home brand but now is sold under the Ambiano brand. Easy Home and Ambiano are not companies. Instead, they’re private labels Aldi uses for various home goods.

Unboxing and Setup:

What comes inside the box: the manual, warranty sheet, humidifier base and tank, mist lid, and power cord.

Upon opening the box, you’ll find the humidifier base, water tank, mist lid, power cord, user manual, and warranty sheet. The user manual has the usual warnings about plugging and unplugging the humidifier with dry hands, and turning it off and unplugging it before cleaning or otherwise servicing the product.

The manual offers other recommendations, including:

  • Use only clean, cool tap water to fill the tank. Filtered or distilled water is recommended to avoid white dust if tap water is too hard. Do not use hot water.
  • Rotate the mist direction nozzle away from children, walls, furniture, and electrical appliances.
  • Always place the humidifier on a smooth, flat, lint-free, non-metallic, waterproof, level surface away from direct sunlight. Do not place the humidifier on a towel or carpeted surface because it may cause it to overheat.
  • Do not add any medication of any type into the nozzle, base, or water tank.
  • Don’t leave the humidifier unattended in a closed room because the air could become saturated and condensation may form on walls or furniture. leave the room door partly open.

To set up the humidifier, simply remove the water tank from the base, and then turn the tank upside down and unscrew the cap. Fill the water tank with cold water, but do not fill all the way to the rim. Screw the cap back on and place the tank back on the base. There shouldn’t be any gaps between the tank and the base. Place the mist lid on top of the tank and turn it to face the desired direction. Plug the power cord in. (Do not use an extension cord.)

Turn on the power by turning the control knob clockwise to the right. The green power indicator light will come on, and mist will start coming through the mist lid. Use the control knob to adjust how much mist comes out.

The LED light turns on when you press the LED On/Off button, and it cycles through the different colors. There does not appear to be a way to set it to stay on one color.

If the tank runs out of water, the power light will turn red and the mist will stop. The manual states this is a safety feature to prevent possible overheating and damage to the nebulizer. Turn off the humidifier and unplug it before removing and refilling the water tank.

The manual recommends adjusting the mist control so it rises up and gets absorbed into the air and doesn’t accumulate on surfaces around the device.

If you want to add essential oils, you can add them directly to the water tank. Mix and match any scents according to your preference, using about three drops of oil. Be sure to clean the tank thoroughly when changing scents.

You should not leave water in the tank when you’re not using it so you can prevent mineral deposit buildup and bacteria growth. The manual says if you leave water in the tank for more than a day or two, bacterial growth may happen.

About once a week or whenever necessary, you can clean the humidifier by filling the water tank with a solution of two tablespoons of white vinegar or bleach in a half-gallon of water. Let stand for 20 minutes. Screw on the water tank cap and shake vigorously with both hands every few minutes, and then drain and rinse with clean water until the vinegar or bleach smell is gone. The manual then says to fill the base (not the water tank) with water and add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar or bleach. Let it soak 20 minutes. Drain and rinse with cool water.

Using the Humidifier:

The humidifier in action, with the water tank LED light glowing. Note that super bright green On light.

This is easy to use and small enough to fit on a nightstand or wherever you want to use it. It works like my other small humidifier I’ve used for years. Simply unscrew the cap on the bottom of the tank, fill it with water, screw the cap back on, plug in, and turn on.

I like the LED light feature, which adds some nice ambient lighting, making the water tank glow softly. The only downside is that the green On indicator light is very bright, so while the LED colored light is fun to look at, the On light is almost too intense for me. A solution is to turn the humidifier to the side so you aren’t directly staring at the On light.

This humidifier does make some quiet noise when it’s running, and it makes more noise than my older humidifier, which makes practically no noise. The noise level isn’t bad, but just be aware it’s not silent.

Overall, I’m happy with this, and my initial impression is that it’s a good humidifier. I’ll update this post if there are any new developments.

The Verdict:

The Ambiano LED Ultrasonic Humidifier is a small humidifier perfect for placing in a bedroom or living space, or anywhere you need extra moisture in the air during the winter. It doesn’t require a filter, and it’s easy to use and looks to be easy to clean and maintain. It added a measurable amount of moisture to the air in our house after just a short time using it. The LED light makes the water tank glow softly and is a cool added feature. It does make a small amount of noise when operating, but that isn’t a deal breaker for us.
