Breakfast Best Oatmeal Bites

Breakfast is one of my family’s favorite meals. We often like to cook a full, hot breakfast on the weekends. That might look like pancakes or waffles with sausage or bacon, or it might be biscuits and gravy, a casserole, French toast, or an absolutely stunning English breakfast tray bake.

Some of us also like oatmeal. I sometimes make it from scratch on the stovetop using Aldi oats, milk, salt, brown sugar, and a little cinnamon. When we’re in a hurry, we make it in the microwave using those little store-bought packets. And oatmeal is not just for breakfast. One of my children likes to pack oatmeal in a thermos for school lunch.

So when I spotted a twist on classic oatmeal in the Aldi Find freezer aisle, I had to try it. These oatmeal bites come in blueberry or maple brown sugar flavors, and they looked like just the thing for breakfast.

Breakfast Best Oatmeal Bites

Breakfast Best Oatmeal Bites cost $4.79 for a 9-ounce package at the time of publication. Each package contains three 3-piece servings, or 9 pieces total. That comes out to about 53 cents per piece.

These are advertised as featuring “creamy steel cut” oatmeal and have a “crispy, crunchy outside!” Each oatmeal bite is about the size of a doughnut hole and features soft, creamy oatmeal inside with a crisp panko breading outside.

These are an Aldi Find, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. Each store receives one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone unless Aldi decides to bring them back at some point. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not in stock at your local store.

If you’re looking out for allergens, both flavors contain dairy, wheat, and eggs. They were produced in a facility that uses walnuts.

Looking at the rest of the ingredients, these contain mostly easily recognizable, whole foods such as whole milk, steel cut oats, white sugar or brown sugar, butter, unbleached panko, liquid eggs, unbleached flour, and non-GMO canola oil. The blueberry flavor contains real blueberries, and the maple brown sugar flavor contains organic maple syrup. The package states these oatmeal bites are “all natural.”

That doesn’t necessarily mean these are great for you, though. They contain their share of fat, saturated fat, sodium, and added sugars. More on that further down.

The packages have directions for heating these from frozen or from thawed in an oven, toaster oven, or air fryer. Because they’re supposed to be crispy on the outside, I wouldn’t recommend microwaving these unless you just don’t care about crispness.

From frozen, you can bake these in an oven or toaster oven at 400 degrees for 13-15 minutes. Or, you can air fry them at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

From thawed, you can bake these in an oven or toaster oven at 400 degrees for 6-7 minutes. Or, you can air fry them at 400 degrees for 6-7 minutes.

I heated these from frozen in my air fryer, and they were hot and crispy after just 8 minutes.

These have a good blueberry flavor and are made with real blueberries. The blueberries are small and cooked down, so they aren’t very visible other than a faint purple color inside the oatmeal bites, but you can taste them. While we like both oatmeal bite flavors, some of our taste testers preferred this flavor.

  1. I just made the Blueberry ones tonight. I’m praying I’m not to late make it back to pick up some more. I’m in love. I have a lot of gi issues and these little oatmeal balls are like an answer to a prayer. If they don’t keep them in my local stores I guess I’ll have to go all mad scientist in the kitchen won’t I? Haven’t even tried the other flavor yet, saving it for tomorrow. Thanks for the review.
