I don’t wear makeup all the time, tending to go au naturel on days when I work from home or otherwise don’t have special plans outside the house. However, I do like putting on some mascara, blush, and subtle lipstick for fancy occasions, weddings, nice dinners out, church, or parties, or sometimes just because.

What goes on must usually come off. It’s always a good idea to remove makeup before going to bed. Also, I find that eye makeup such as mascara — even the non-waterproof varieties — requires some special attention to remove. You can try washing it off with a standard washcloth, but I’ve learned it’s a lot easier to use products specifically designed to remove makeup. I’ve tried a few brands over the years, including Almay eye makeup remover pads and Neutrogena wipes.

I noticed that Aldi sells its own house brand of makeup remover wipes under its Lacura private label. The Lacura brand includes personal care products such as sunscreen, razors, lotion, and body wash.

Lacura Face Care Make-Up Removing Cleansing Towelettes

Lacura Face Care Make-Up Removing Cleansing Towelettes are a Regular Buy, so you ought to be able to find them at Aldi all year.

These Lacura Face Care Make-Up Removing Cleansing Towelettes cost $1.69 for a 25-pack at the time of writing. That comes out to about 7 cents per wipe.

The package states these are comparable to Neutrogena Make-Up Remover Cleansing Towelettes. A pack of Neutrogena Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes cost about 21 cents per wipe when you buy a two-pack with 50 wipes from Walmart at the time of writing. So the Aldi wipes look to be the better deal by a lot.

Here’s more information about the Lacura wipes:

  • Contains 25 pre-moistened ultra-soft towelettes
  • Towelettes measure 7.4″ by 7.2″ (18.8 by 18.3 cm)
  • Removes long-lasting make-up, including waterproof mascara
  • Dermatologist approved
  • Ophthalmologically tested
  • Alcohol- and oil-free
  • Forest Stewardship Council certified to contain fiber from responsible sources
  • Not tested on animals
  • Contains fragrance (it has a mild, fresh scent, similar to its name-brand counterpart)

To use, peel the label to open. Remove a wipe and reseal the package to retain moisture. Gently wipe face, neck, and eye areas to remove make-up and impurities. No rinse is needed. Dispose of wipes in the trash. Do not flush.

The package notes these wipes may cause stinging. I’ve found this to be a common occurrence with other make-up removal wipe brands, which can cause some mild stinging on skin around the eyes after using them to remove mascara and/or eyeliner. The Lacura package states that if stinging occurs, rinse eyes thoroughly with warm water.

I like these wipes, and I also have a pack of the Neutrogena name-brand wipes to compare them to. I think the Aldi Lacura wipes work as well as the Neutrogena brand. They’re effective at getting mascara and other eye makeup off, and I feel like these Lacura wipes don’t sting like other name-brand makeup wipes I’ve used, which is a big bonus in my opinion.

About the only downside I can see to the Lacura wipes is that the name-brand Neutrogena wipes I own are plant-based and state they can be put in home compost, while the Lacura wipes say nothing about being home compostable.

The Verdict:

Lacura Face Care Make-Up Removing Cleansing Towelettes are comparable in some ways to Neutrogena makeup remover wipes, but the Lacura wipes cost a lot less. These work well at removing makeup, especially around the eye areas. For times when I need makeup remover, these are a good option.

  1. Similar/identical to Walmart Equate private label items, but to get similar price ea., you have to buy at least 100 or more. Typical.
