Aldi has a small personal care aisle where I’ve found some pretty good products over the years. I like Aldi shaving razors, dandruff shampoo, body wash, face cream, shampoo and conditioner, bar soap, liquid hand soap, and sunscreen.
Many of these products are sold under the Lacura brand, which is an Aldi private label. Occasionally, Aldi will quietly drop new Lacura-branded products onto its shelves. Recently, I discovered two new products that feature natural colloidal oatmeal. One is a body lotion, and another is a body wash.
But what is colloidal oatmeal?
Colloidal oatmeal has skin-soothing properties and is therefore a popular ingredient to help treat dermatitis, eczema, dry skin, or even bug bites or poison ivy. It may not cure skin conditions (and it might not be good for people with celiac disease who must avoid gluten), but it can help to seal in moisture and protect against skin irritants. It’s produced by blending oats into a very fine powder that dissolves in water. Commercially, it’s sold in creams, lotions, body wash, shaving gels, or even bath soaks.
You can make your own colloidal oatmeal at home by blending or grinding whole, uncooked oats in a food processor until you have a fine powder that you can add to lotions, or you can add some right into your bath water.
Some members of my family have very sensitive skin that easily reacts to irritants such as cold air or certain beauty products, so personal care products with oatmeal can be helpful at taming dry, flaky, or otherwise unhappy skin. Here, I’m taking a closer look at the oatmeal body wash that’s new at Aldi.
Lacura Oatmeal Body Wash cost $3.69 for an 18-ounce bottle at the time of publication. That comes out to about 21 cents per ounce.
The bottle states this is comparable to Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash. A 33-ounce bottle of Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash from Walmart cost about 33 cents per ounce at the time of writing. That makes the Aldi oatmeal body wash the better deal.
This appears to be a Regular Buy, which means you should be able to find it at Aldi any time of year.
Here’s more information about the body wash:
- Made with natural colloidal oatmeal
- Paraben and phthalate free
- Offers gentle cleansing
- Dermatologist tested
The bottle doesn’t offer any information about whether this product is cruelty free or if it was tested on animals. It does state that this is not manufactured or distributed by Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products Company, which distributes Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash.
The bottle has your standard directions for use. For everyday use in the shower, squeeze a generous amount of body wash onto a washcloth or pouf and work into a creamy, rich lather, then rinse off.
This body wash is white and has a medium thickness when you squirt it out of the bottle. The ingredients list includes fragrance, but the scent is so light and mild it’s almost not there. It mostly has a faint clean scent. This lathers decently and seems to do as well as other types of body washes I’ve used when it comes to getting clean. Overall, it’s a nice addition to our collection of personal care products in the shower.
Lacura Oatmeal Body Wash is a newer product in the personal care section at Aldi. It’s made with natural colloidal oatmeal, which is good for soothing sensitive or irritated skin. It’s paraben and phthalate free and dermatologist tested. It has a light, almost undetectable fragrance and does a good job at gently getting skin clean and fresh.
